This study was carried out to analyze the current status of threatened species of the red list by IUCN categories and criteria in the national parks of Korea and to establish an efficient park management plan for conserving endangered wildlife. The red list of threatened species in the national parks of Korea consisted of a total 300 species (56.3% of the total in Korea) belonging to 9 taxa; mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, insects, spiders, mollusks and vascular plants. CR (Critically endangered) species were 28 (50.0% of the total CR species in Korea), EN (Endangered) species were 84 (59.2%) and VU (Vulnerable) species were 188 (73.4%). The current status of threatened species in the 21 national parks of Korea showed that Jirisan National Park was the largest number with 115 species belonging to 6 taxa. It means that relatively high distribution rates of threatened species plays a significant role as a key indicator to assess the value of national parks. Also, these results will provide the direction of habitats management and conservation of endangered species.

국립공원의 희귀 야생생물 보호와 관리를 위하여 국립공원 생물종 목록을 대상으로 IUCN 적색목록의 범 주와 기준에 따라 국립생물자원관에서 제시한 적색목록 중 멸종우려(threatened species) 범주에 해당하는 위기(CR, Critically endangered), 위급(EN, Endangered), 취약(VU, Vulnerable) 등급 종의 현황을 파악하여 분류군별로 정리하 였다. 국립공원 내 서식하는 멸종우려종은 포유동물, 조류, 양서류, 파충류, 어류, 곤충, 거미, 연체동물, 관속식물 등 9개 분류군 총 300종으로 한국 내 전체 멸종우려종 533종의 56.3%에 해당하며, 위급(CR)종은 28종으로 전체의 50.0%, 위기(EN)종은 84종으로 전체의 59.2%, 취약(VU)종은 188종으로 전체의 73.4%인 것으로 분석되었다. 분류군 별 국립공원 멸종우려종 현황에 따르면 파충류는 멸종우려종 5종 전체의 서식이 확인되어 가장 높은 비율(100%)을 나타냈고, 포유동물(92.9%), 곤충(82.4%), 양서류(80.0%), 조류(67.3%), 관속식물(59.4%), 거미(50.0%), 어류(30.8%), 연체동물(5.0%) 순으로 나타났다. 전체 국립공원 중 적색목록 멸종우려종의 서식 현황을 살펴본 결과 지리산국립공 원이 6개 분류군 115종으로 확인되어 가장 많은 멸종우려종이 서식하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 현황을 통해 확인된 국립공원 적색목록 멸종우려종의 비교적 높은 서식비율은 국립공원의 가치를 높게 평가할 수 있는 중요한 지표로 판단되며 국립공원 희귀 야생생물의 체계적인 보전과 서식지 관리방안에 대한 방향성을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
