The worsening environmental conditions on Earth and the ecological problems have caused 'philosophy of life' to emerge as a new topic for modern philosophy. First of all, the core of such philosophical change is presented as an attempt to overcome the dualism of subject and object such as human beings and nature, spirit and material, mind and body. This attempt presupposes that the concept of reason itself must be extended to the concept of a broad 'rationality' beyond understanding the traditional concept of reason. The 'communicative rationality' presented by Habermas shows the beginning of a world view that can overcome the dualism of the subject and object without metaphysics. Of course, such discussions may hold critical openness, but it can be pointed out that it is not enough to highlight idealistic discourse as a practical 'ethics of communication'. The philosophy of life that can solve environmental and ecological problems, that is, the philosophy of life that can overcome the dualism of the subjects and the objects, must express the extended rationalism as in 'communicative rationality'. However, it is certain that it should be found within the limits of 'the deoccidental philosophy'. The life idea of Donghak and Chondokyo could be the most appropriate model of this solution. From this premise, this paper proceeds through the following discussion process. First, the relationship between communication and ethics is discussed from a modern point of view on the premise that ethical communication or communicative ethics is absent. Second, the absence of communication is assumed to be a crisis of modern ethics. The problem of its overcoming is examined in the structure of modernity, and such a topic is discussed in connection with the problem of religion. Third, the possibility of deriving a new ethical norm is centered on Donghak and Cheondoko's philosophy of life with the basis of deoccidental religion in mind.
