Hong am Na-chol was chosen by God(HANEUNIM, 一神) as the successor of Daejongyo due to his inborn religious mind. He relightened divine teachings which had been passed down and proclaimed the modern faith in God. Hong-am’s great work shined as he contributed the following: renaming Dangungyo to Daejonggyo, creating a new era recognizing the foundation of Dangun, replacing ancestral nameplate of Dangun with portrait of Dangun, publicizing five fundamental meanings which is a commandment of Daejonggyo, building ceremony, duties, organization and order of ranks, and structuring Daejonggyo for stability and extension. Hong-am also wrote Sinridaejon(神理大全), which included his establishment of theory of faith in God by explaining one God(一神) of Samilsingo(三一神誥) and three God(三神) of Sinsagi(神事記) as body(體) and use(用). He endeavored to visit sacred place of Manchuria and found evidences of faith in God. In addition, he demonstrated the religious ability by curing many people miraculously. Logical explanation of faith in God in Daejonggyo is just a beginning. Extension and connotation of faith in God are too wide and profound which reasons that the thought of Hong-am Nachol cannot be understood with just a few papers. I am hoping for more interest and research from more researchers.

이 논문은 홍암 나철과 우리 전래의 하느님 신앙과의 관계를 서술한 것이다. 나철은 그의 타고난 종교적 성정(性情)에 힘입어, 백봉집단에 의해 전래 단군신앙(대종교)의 후계자로 선택된다. 그리고 우리 하느님 신앙의 ‘거듭남[重光)’을 선포하고 본격적인 포교를 전개했다. 특히 대 종교 오대종지의 근본적인 의미를 홍보하고, 대종교의 여러 종교적 기 틀을 마련했다. 이어 나철은 『삼일신고』와 『신사기(神事記)』에 나타나 는 삼신일체의 의미를 『신리대전(神理大全)』의 저술을 통해 명쾌히 해 명도 했다. 또한 백두산을 중심으로 한 대종교의 성적(聖蹟)을 몸소 찾 아 밝히는가 하면, 그곳을 중심으로 수많은 종교적 이적(異蹟)을 행함 으로써, 그의 종교적 능력을 확인시켜 주었다.
