나철 대종사의 고유의 도의 계승과 도학

Nahcheol inherited the legitimate line of descent of the Tao inherited from the Dangun period. In the age when the country is ruined, Nahcheol rebuilded Daejonggyo to preserve the province with the belief that one day it would survive if it kept its original Tao. He was convinced that Daejonggyo would be preserved under divine protection because its Tao is the first in the world and its doctrine contains those of all the religions of the world. He had spiritually exercised Tao until his martyrdom and succeeded it to his successors. He received many revelations in the performance of Tao and prayed to God to do miracles and to heal the sick. His martyrdom was also a practice of Tao, and his maintenance “Make my funeral very frugal” is worth being a religious. The martyrdom became the greatest means of resisting the severe religious oppression of the Japanese imperialists. At the funeral and memorial service there were memorials from many patriotic governors, which played a role in unifying them. Tao philosophy is a study to study Tao. It is a general noun which is not a specific terminology. Its formal elements are religious order, scripture, doctrine, and norms and content elements are God (heaven for atheists), land, haman being, character and so on. As we reviewed, all of which are included in Samilsingo. The highest preacher Nahcheol led the order according to the Tao of Samilsingo and on the other hand contributed to the development of Tao philosophy. After the Daejonggyo was lightened, the ceremony including the robbery was decided as the ordinance, which made it possible to do the doctrinal teaching. His ordinances show a great Tao which embraces other religions. In addition, he himself wrote SinliDaejeon, which explicitly explained the three pillars of the Samilsingo and the three Gods in one. By studying his ways in the future, we will be able to better understand his life while living true and righteous lives, and think about what his meaning is in our day. It would also be meaningful to compare his Tao with the Taos that were explained through a variety of lectures served by concurrent people. The doctrines of new religions bulit in the end peoriod of Joseon dynasty were founded on Korean traditional religion because their founders established religion by continuing to cultivate the doctrine in the tradition of inheritance in the absence of the religions. I hope that the dialogue between religions will be more active because it is possible that all new religions have the possibility of going back to one Tao again.


나철 정신의 핵심인 도(道)는 특정 용어가 아닌 일반적인 명사다. 그 리고 이러한 도의 가치는 『삼일신고』에 이미 잘 나타나 있다. 특히 나 철은 그의 저술 『신리대전』을 통해 『삼일신고』 삼신상종(三神三宗)의 도를 도학적(道學的) 입장에서 분명하게 설명해 주었다. 나철의 도는 단군 시대로부터 내려오는 것으로, 그는 그것을 근대에 들어 가장 옹 글게 상속받은 인물이었다. 그리고 그는 ‘국가가 망하게 된 시기에 도 를 지키면 재생할 것[國亡道存]’이라는 믿음으로 대종교를 다시 일으켰 다. 나철은 이러한 도, 즉 대종교의 가르침이 신성하게 보존 될 것이 라고 확신했다. 그가 내세운 도는 지고지선의 가치인 동시에, 그 가르 침 속에는 이미 세계의 모든 종교의 교리가 녹아있기 때문이었다. 나 철은 이러한 도의 깨달음을 통해, 순교할 때까지 수많은 종교적 영험 함을 보여주었다. 한편 이러한 정신은 일제강점기 흩어진 민심의 구심 점이 되는 동시에, 일제에 대한 총체적 저항의 동력으로도 작용했다. 나아가 나철이 드러낸 이와 같은 도의 가치가, 향후 또 다른 도학적 가치들과의 비교 연구를 통해 더더욱 확산되기를 기대한다.
