The purpose of this study is to present the necessity and importance of sex education for adolescents in the church. Adolescence is a period of physical and sexual development between childhood and adult. In addition, adolescence is a critical period for value development. Sexual and other physical maturation that occurs during adolescence is a result of hormonal changes, which causes an increase of interests in sex and the attractive stranger. However, radical development of technology provides youth with more opportunities to expose themselves to harmful environment like pornography, which has bad influence on the formation of adolescents’ sexual value. The results of survey that 92 youth pastors among 95 pastors respond that sex education should be carried out in the church. However, 41 pastors have been never performed sex education in the church. They respond that the reason why they do not carry out is because ‘there is no proper materials for sex education’, ‘sex is too sensitive area to deal with’, ‘there is a lack of time and money for sex education’ etc. Those who carry out sex education in the church respond that they do sex education through preaching, group bible study, or seminar. Regarding a question asking denomination your church belongs to can provide teaching resources for sex education, 94% responded ‘no’, and ‘i don’t know.’ For revitalization for sex education for youth in the church, the researcher suggests Christian media education to help youth learn the skills of media literacy, parental education to help parents to teach children a sound attitude towards sex, and development of sex education materials that Christian educators can use.

본 연구의 목적은 청소년을 위한 교회 내 성교육 실태를 분석하고 기독교적 성가치관 형성을 위한 성교육의 필요성과 교육 방법을 제시하는데 있다. 청소년기는 가치관 형성의 결정적 시기이다. 호르몬의 변화로 인한 신체와 성적 성숙이 급격하게 일어나면서 성과 이성에 대한 관심이 증가하고, 더욱이 모바일 기기의 자유로운 사용으로 인해 성인물과 같은 유해환경의 접촉이 쉬워지면서 왜곡된 성가치관을 형성할 가능성이 다른 어느 때보다 커졌다. 실제로 성과 관련된 청소년 범죄가 해마다 증가하면서, 학교나 사회교육기관에서 성교육을 강화하려는 시도는 증가하고 있지만, 교회에서는 성교육은 거의 실행되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 청소년사역자들을 대상으로 성교육의 필요성과 수행을 묻는 질문에서, 설문에 참여한 청소년 사역자 95명 가운데 92명이 교회 내에서 성교육이 필요하다고 응답하였지만, 실제로 한 번도 성교육을 수행한 적이 없다고 응답한 청소년 사역자는 41명(43%)이나 되었다. 성교육을 하지 못하고 있는 이유로는 ‘적절한 자료가 없어서’라고 응답한 사역자가 가장 많았고, ‘민감한 영역이기 때문에’, ‘시간과 예산이 부족해서’라는 응답이 뒤를 이었다. 성교육을 실시한다고 대답한 사역자들은 주로 세미나나 특강, 설교와 성경공부 시간에 성교육을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 실제로 소속된 교단에서 성교육 교재를 제공하고 있느냐를 묻는 질문에 94%의 응답자가 ‘제공하지 않는다’, 또는 ‘잘 모르겠다’고 응답하였다. 이러한 결과는 대부분의 청소년 사역자들이 성교육의 필요성에는 공감하지만, 교회 내에서 성교육의 시행은 잘 이루어지지 않고 있음을 보여준다. 교회 내 청소년 성교육 활성화 방안으로는 기독교세계관에 기초하여 미디어를 비판적으로 수용하도록 돕는 기독교미디어교육과 가정에서 부모가 자녀에게 건강한 성에 대해 가르칠 수 있도록 도울 수 있는 부모교육, 성에 대한 기독교적 관점을 가지도록 도울 수 있는 설교나 세미나를 통한 성교육, 그리고 기독교교육가들이 사용 할 수 있는 성교육 관련 교재의 출판과 보급 등을 활성화 방안으로 제시하였다.
