While there are many factors that have caused the decline of the Korean Church, one could point out the failure of Korean pastors to confront their audience with the inspired Word of God that is supposed to teach, rebuke, and correct them. The rebuking and correcting voice has disappeared from the pulpits of the Korean Church and has been superceded by self-cheering sermons, success testimony, and entertaining sermons. The present essay undertakes an examination of Rev. Han Kyung Chik’s sermons, collected in the 18 volumes that compile nearly all the sermons delivered at the Sunday morning services of Young Nak Presbyterian Church from 1946 to 1992, with attention to their goals and functions. The central thesis of the present article is that Rev. Han’s sermons offer a good illustration of the doctrine of biblical inspiration. His 1, 145 sermons succeed in making the biblical texts and their embedded doctrines bear on the concrete life setting of his audience, simply beyond being expository sermons. This essay analyzes how well his sermons demonstrate the doctrinal meaning of sermon texts, categorizing them under three themes: (1) the Bible that makes its readers wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ; (2) the Bible that is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (correcting, rebuking, and encouraging); (3) the Bible that sanctifies the people of God so as to be thoroughly equipped for any good work. Based on the above discussion, the present essay reaches the conclusion that the sermons of Han Kyung Chik are committed to instructing the central tenets of the Reformed Church: confession of human depravity followed by salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, witness of the Gospel through ethical life, and public faith seeking social transformation. It is hoped that the present essay will contribute to paving the way for a mutually edifying dialogue and cooperation between homiletics and biblical studies, overcoming the compartmentalization of various disciplines of Christian theology.

한국교회의 위기를 촉발한 원인은 다양하겠지만 설교의 위기 또한 한국교회를 쇠락의 길로 몰아가는 데 기여하고 있다. 한국교회의 강단에서는 성경의 권계적이고 경책적인 목소리가 사라지고 그 대신 과도한 자기격려적 설교, 성공간증, 그리고 대중영합적인 설교들이 대세를 이룬다. 본 논문은 디모데후서 3:15-17이 말하는 영감받은 성경의 권계적, 경책적, 교정 사역을 배제하는 오늘날 한국교회 강단을 비판적으로 조망하는 기준으로 한경직의 설교들을 주목한다. 이 논문이 설교학이 성서학과 조직신학과 분리된 채 연구되는 오늘날의 신학분야의 파편화를 극복하고 성서학과 설교학의 건강한 대화와 협업의 길을 여는 데 기여하기를 바란다. 이 논문은 18권으로 된 한경직 목사 설교전집(1946-1992년)에 들어있는 다양한 설교들을 목적과 기능의 관점에서 연구한다. 이 글의 중심논지는 한경직의 설교들은 성경영감론이 무엇을 의미하는지를 잘 예증하는 설교라는 주장이다. 한경직의 설교집에 실려있는 1, 145편의 설교들은 단지 성경강해 설교는 아니지만 성경본문의 교리적 차원을 잘 드러내 청중들의 삶에 효과적으로 상관시키는 설교들이다. 이 글은 한경직의 설교들을 세 가지 주제로 분류하여 그것들이 각각 어떤 점에서 성경의 영감성을 잘 예해하는지를 밝혔다. (1) 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 믿음의 지혜를 알게 하는 성경; (2) 교훈하고, 책망하며, 바르게 하고, 의로 교육하기에, 유익한 성경; (3) 하나님의 사람으로 온전케 하며, 모든 선한 일을 행하기에 온전케 하는 성경. 이 논문의 결론은 한경직의 설교들은 성경영감설에 바탕을 두며 개혁교회의 중심교리(인간타락과 신앙고백에 의한 구원, 삶과 윤리를 통한 복음증거, 사회변혁적 공공 신앙)를 주일예배 설교강단을 통해 가르치는 데 투신되었다는 것이다.
