Place must be considered for the popularization of humanity. When the popularization is based on the place, humanities education programs are thus concretely specified. Understanding the place is an appropriate way for us to realize what the world is. Supposed that humanity gives the best forms of life, the insight of place can be a starting point. The birth of responsibility ethics is built in the accumulated process of experiencing place in which variable virtue items of humanities are arranged. The subject taking responsibility is not an abstract aggregate of nation or society but individuals living in the place. Humanity must be so focused on the individuals as the subject experiencing the place, and the rough sketch of the popularization of humanity must start from them. In this article I proposed a new direction for such citizen humanities, human city, humanity policy of popularization of humanities and saw the significance of place and experience. Then for the practical arguments of the placeexperience I discussed the possibility of rural capitalism and town humanities. In any way the discussion of locality and place is necessary to succeed the popularization of humanities, and the citizen humanity programs are completed through confirming the place.

장소성은 인문학 대중화를 위해 반드시 고려해야 할 사항이다. 장소를 근거로 해야만 인문학 대중화의 목표가 분명해지며 실질적인 인문학 교육프로그램도 구 체성을 띈다. 장소에 대한 이해는 세계를 인식하는 적합한 방식이다. 인문학이 궁극적으로 사람들에게 최선의 생활양식을 제공하는 데 있다고 한다면 장소가 그 출발점이 되어야 한다. 책임윤리가 탄생할 수 있는 곳도 바로 장소에 대한 경험이 축적되어가는 과정 에서 만들어지며, 다양한 인문적 덕목도 이에 근거해서 마련된다. 책임을 지는 주체는 국가나 사회와 같이 추상적인 집합체가 아니라 어디까지나 장소에 놓인 사람이다. 그러므로 인문학은 장소 경험의 주체로서의 사람들에 대해 초점을 맞 추어야 하며, 인문학 대중화의 큰 밑그림은 구체적인 장소를 살아가는 사람들로 부터 시작해야 한다. 이 논문에서는 시민인문학의 방향을 새롭게 제시하면서 그에 필요한 철학적 논의로서 장소와 경험의 중요성을 살펴보았다. 다음으로 장소 경험의 실천적 논 의를 위해 산촌자본주의와 동네인문학의 의미에 대해 논의했다. 지역과 장소에 대한 논의는 인문학 대중화를 위한 필수적인 요구 사항이며, 시민인문학의 정신 을 구현하기 위한 인문학 프로그램도 장소에 대한 이해와 반성을 통해 만들어져 야 한다는 사실을 강조했다.
