Capitalism has brought economic affluence into our lives. Yet conversely, through competition and the mechanism of exploitation, it has caused confusion about the identity and dignity of life. In this way, the natural ecosystems that exist on Earth were also degenerated for human development. A phenomenon that downplays the value of life, it contributed to the loss of human dignity and humanity, as well as to the destruction of natural ecosystems. It caused problems in the natural environment, and it also resulted in ethical problems in human society, which have been occurring constantly ever since. Recently, these events highlighted the importance of using life to overcome destruction of the ecosystem. However, modern people tend to distort the idea of life, as they adopt mechanistic views of nature and embody various dimensions of the modern materialist. In this situation, one’s perception of life should be redesigned first, This paper criticizes the relevance of capitalist mechanisms, as well as Darwin's idea of the life of capitalists. As an alternative perspective to solve the problems associated with the contempt of life and ecosystem degradation, it proposes the Fourfold (四恩) Grace of Won Buddhism. Based on the Fourfold Grace of Won Buddhism in ethics of life, it discovers grace of life; this perspective emphasizes a world in which we all live together, and articulates that everyone in the world is connected to each other. The creation of humanity maintains balance and harmony, collaboration, and a symbiotic coexistence (共生·共存). The second chapter demonstrates the modern viewpoint, where people overlook history and life. It proposes the problems associated with the idea of life and the value of new life. These views belong in modern capitalism ideology. The third and fourth chapters derived ideas of life from (恩) the grace of Won Buddhism. Through this, a universal bioethics has been proposed as an alternative to overcome the contradictions of life. The fourth and final chapter discusses the idea of life practices of Won Buddhism. It attempts to embody the activities and refine the ideas that could only be affected by abstract and conceptual flow. In this way, it is thus meaningful to establish a culture that practices bioethics.

자본주의는 우리의 삶에 경제적 풍요를 가져왔으나 한편으로는 경쟁과 착취의 메커니즘으로 인해 생명에 대한 존엄성 및 정체성의 혼란을 야기했다. 이로써 지 구상에 공존하는 자연 생태계의 가치 또한 인간발전을 위한 수단으로 전락하였 고, 생명의 가치를 경시하는 현상은 자연 생태계 파괴는 물론 인간의 존엄성과 인 간성마저도 상실하는 데 일조하였다. 이로 인한 자연 환경의 문제는 물론이며, 인 간사회의 윤리적 문제도 끊임없이 발생하고 있다. 최근에는 이러한 문제를 해결 하기 위한 방안으로서 생명사상의 중요성이 부각되면서 생태계 파괴문제를 극복 하기 위해 노력하고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 현대인들은 생명에 대한 개념을 근대 의 기계론적 자연관과 유물론적 차원으로 환원시켜 왜곡하는 경향이 있기 때문에 이러한 시점에서 생명사상을 새롭게 정립하는 작업이 먼저 이루어져야 한다. 본고에서는 자본주의의 메커니즘과 다윈의 생명개념의 연관성을 비판하고, 생 태계 파괴와 생명경시 문제를 해결할 수 있는 대안으로 원불교의 사은(四恩)사상을 제시하고자 한다. 원불교의 사은사상에 바탕을 둔 생명의 윤리란 모든 생명과 더불어 살아가는 은혜의 발견이며 서로 연결된 하나의 세계를 발견하고, 상호 협 동하여 공생·공존(共生·共存)하는 것으로 한쪽으로 치우치지 않고 균형과 조화를 유지하는 인륜의 창출이다. 본고 2장은 생명을 탐구해온 역사와 생명을 바라보는 현대적 관점을 짚어보고, 근대 자본주의 이념에 녹아있는 생명사상의 문제점과 새로운 생명가치의 이념을 제시하였다. 3장과 4장에서는 원불교의 은(恩) 사상으로부터 생명사상을 도출하 였으며, 이를 통하여 보편적인 생명윤리를 생명에 대한 모순을 극복하는 대안으 로 제시하였다. 마지막 4장은 원불교의 생명사상 실천사례를 고찰하였다. 이와 같은 시도는 추상적이고 관념적인 흐름에 그칠 수 있는 원불교의 생명사상과 활 동을 구체화하여 가치관을 정립하고, 생명윤리와 실천문화를 정착시키는데 그 의미가 있다.
