After the Donghak revolution, both the independence movement of Daejongkyo and the anti-Japanese anarchist movement involved historical and societal transformations that saw the emergence of personal integrity as the most critical issue . The important question was how to combine the interiority of an acting individual and the objective reality as a unified whole. From the late Chosun Dynasty to 1940, contemporary intellectuals could not help but question how to understand oneself within world in order to transform both the self and the world. The answer to this question was sought on practical grounds, with the ultimate aim of transforming both the self and the world. In this sense, this paper explored theories of human nature, while understanding the objective changes that occurred throughout history in the cases of BaekPo Seo Il, Paikahm Park Eun-Sik, Danjae Shin Chae-Ho, and Woodang Lee Hoe-Yeong, all members of Daejonggkyo.

동학혁명 이후 대종교의 독립전쟁, 무정부주의 항일 혁명운동에 이르기까지 역사 사회의 변형과 인격의 고결성을 결합하는 문제는 가장 핵심적인 문제로 작용 했다. 중요한 것은 행동하는 개인의 내면성과 객관적 현실을 어떻게 하나의 통일 된 전체로 형성하는가의 문제였다. 구한말로부터 1940년까지 시대적인 상황 속에서 당대의 지식인들은 어떻게 자기 자신을 이해하고 어떻게 세계를 인식하여 자기와 세계를 변형할 것인가에 대한 물음을 가질 수밖에 없었다. 이러한 물음에 대한 해답은 자기와 세계의 변형 이라는 실천적 지평 안에서 이루어 졌다. 이런 의미에서 이 논문에서는 인성론적인 탐구와 객관적 역사에 대한 이해와 변형의 문제를 한국 대종교 전통의 몇 분을 통해서 탐구해 보는 것은 의미 있는 일이라고 생각한다.
