This article aims at analyzing relations in thought between the East Asian traditional anti-Confucian political thoughts such as Mohism and Taoism and Tonghak. For the purpose, this paper explains the political thoughts of Mo-tzu, Lao-tzu, and Chuang- tzu. And then, as three common contents of the anti-Confucian political thoughts and Tonghak, (1) critical view of Confucianism and political goal of constructing egalitarian political order; (2) theory of human nature which prescribes human being as the subject of desire for peaceful living and of having individuality; and (3) practical theory of morality for social reform are presented. These common contents shows the fact that there is relations in thought between the East Asian traditional anti-Confucian political thoughts and Tonghak. In conclusion, this article argues that it is necessary for the research attempts to analyze relation between Tonghak and East Asian traditional thoughts except Confucianism to be continued for the development of Tonghak study, under the premise that Tonghak has some peculiarities as a religious political thought and some originalities in thought.

이 글은 묵학사상과 노장사상으로 대표되는 동아시아 전통의 반유 학적(反儒學的) 사상과 한국의 대표적 개혁사상으로서의 동학이 갖 는 정치사상적 연관성을 밝히려는 제 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 필자 는 묵학사상 및 노장사상 정치질서관의 내용을 설명하고, 이들 사상 이 동학사상과 갖는 사상적 관련성을 분석했다. 구체적으로 (1) 유 학비판의 현실인식과 평등질서관 구축의 정치목표, (2) 삶의 욕구주 체로서, 그리고 개체성 보유주체로서 인간의 본질을 규정하는 인성 론, 그리고 (3) 실천적 도덕론 등 세 가지 측면에서 묵학 및 노장사 상과 동학사상이 유사한 입장을 지니고 있음을 설명했다. 이를 통해 동아시아 개혁사상으로서의 동학사상이 갖는 보편적 특성이 존재한 다는 사실을 밝혔다. 결론적으로 동학연구의 범위확대, 나아가 동학 의 세계화를 위해서는 동학이 지닌 종교사상으로서의 특수성과 사상 적 독창성을 충분히 인정하는 토대 위에서 유학 이외의 동아시아 제 전통사상과 동학과의 사상적 연관성을 분석하는 시도들이 지속될 필요가 있음을 지적했다.
