The Effects of Primary Caregiver's Parenting Attitude on DepressionㆍAnxiety and Aggression of Youth in Group Home and Foster Home Care - Focusing on the Mediating Effects of Self Esteem -

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of primary caregiver's parenting attitude on depression․anxiety and aggression of youth in group home and foster home care focusing on the mediating effects of self esteem. Data were collected from nationwide 64 group homes and 300 foster homes by mailing questionnaire surveys from August 13th to September 13th, 2013. One hundred seventy two youth in group home and 181 youth in foster home were responded. T-test, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, Baron & Kenny(1986)' mediating analysis, and Sobel test were used in the data analysis. The major findings were as follows: First, the youth in group home care were perceived primary caregiver's parenting attitude more positive than the youth in foster home care. Second, perceived primary caregiver's parenting attitude had negative relationship and effects to depression․anxiety and aggression, and positive relationship and effects to self-esteem. Finally, self-esteem was proved to have mediating effects between the effects of perceived primary caregiver's parenting attitude on depression․anxiety and aggression overall. Based on these results, implications for social work practice and policy were suggested.
