The Pilot Research for Development of Parent-Child Relationship Promotion Program based on Psychological Needs for Parents with Adolescent Children in Low-income Families

This study is the pilot research for development of parent-child relationship promotion program based on the psychological needs for parents of low-income families with adolescent children. For those purposes, the study conducted a needs survey with the parents of low-income families of adolescent children using the service of a community child center in D City and developed a parent-child relationship promotion program by reflecting the results. To try and test the effects of the program, the investigator gathered 11 parents of low-income families, divided them into a treatment and comparison group, and administered the program to the six parents of the former and book club to the five parents of the comparison group. The study conducted a Mann-Whitney test to test differences in pre- and post-test means between the groups. The treatment group, as compared with the comparison group showed statistically significant differences in parent-child communication and parent efficacy. Finally, the study made proposals regarding the utilization of parent-child relationship promotion program based on psychological needs.
