All the members of a democratic society are at liberty to lead their own lives which coincide with their own values and aspirations. But on the other hand it is attended with their duty to respect everyone's basic rights. As is generally known, this deontological-liberal position is theoretically clarified by John Rawls's conception of the 'uncompromising character of justice.' As an extension of this, I will outline the moral conditions which our society must satisfy in a reasonable way to offer the equal opportunities for realization to the various individual visions of happiness. Eventually I will advocate a cardinal principle of deontological liberalism, the equal liberty of all the citizens, as the most important social condition of possibility of happiness in general.
