An Empirical Study on the Determinants of Vendor's Customer Bonding Behavior of Information System Outsourcing

Information System Outsourcing is wide spread phenomenon in modern computerized business organizations. Through outsourcing, organizations can provide better service and acquire and maintain a competitive advantage. Recently, most of companies have an increasing interest about outsourcing for Information System. The outsourcing agreement is one of the technology transactions. The imperfection of the technology market causes critical two problems(the pre-contract and the post-contract hazard) for the trading parties involved. This study examines the post-contract hazard of outsourcing agreements from vendor`s perspective, specially, focusing on safeguards against the outsourcing company`s opportunism likely to reduce the value of the transaction-specific assets invested by the vendors. Designing an efficient governance structure to cope with the opportunism is one of the critical issues dealt with by Transaction Cost Approach. Transaction Cost Approach has suggested three options of safeguards for the trading parties to choose: the hierarchy, the hostage, and the contractual agreement with hierarchical elements. In this study an alternative to safeguard against opportunism is examined from the resource dependence perspective. In this study, transaction cost variables and dependence balancing variables are analysed as determinants of the vendor`s customer bonding behavior. Also, perceived level of vendor`s satisfaction is examine. 78 usable responses were returned form the survey, using this responses Factor, Correlation and Regression analysis are performed.
