The domestic clinics experience business deterioration because of regulation on medical fees. Since clinics have high fixed costs, an increase in medical revenues can improve profitability. However, it is hard to raise per-patient revenues under the current regulation or increase the number of patient visits in the midst of worries over the oversupply of physicians. We can consider medical tour as an alternative to boost revenues of clinics as medical services are now briskly traded internationally. The government is making efforts to nurture medical tour as a part of plan to strengthen medical service industry. This study examines the feasibility of medical tour using a survey of physicians in plastic surgery and dermatology and draws the conclusion that medical tour can help the business of clinics.

국내 의원들은 의료수가 규제와 의원의 증가로 인해 경영상의 애로를 겪고 있다. 의원들은 고정비용이 높기 때문에 매출액 증가를 통해 경영성과를 효과적으로 제고할 수 있다. 하지만 의료수가의 규제 하에서 일인당 진료비를 인상하기가 어렵고 또한 의료서비스 공급의 과잉이 우려되는 상황에서 국내환자를 증가시키기는 어렵다. 최근 국제적으로 의료서비스의 교역이 활발히 진행되고 있기 때문에 의원들의 시장확대를 위한 대안으로 의료관광을 검토할 수 있다. 정부 역시 의료서비스의 산업화와 발전을 위해서 의료관광을 육성하고 있다. 설문분석을 통해 서울시 성형외과와 피부과의 의료관광의 가능성을 분석하였고 의료관광이 서울시 성형외과와 피부과의 시장확대를 위한 효과적인 방안이라는 것을 도출하였다.
