This essay is a study of the intentional problems in literary Critic-ism which have been discussed in recent years. The New Critical method which developed from the 1930s to the 1950s proposes that intentionalism should be removed out of literary criticism in order to achieve the successful interpretation of literary work, while the in- tentionalist critics who oppose the New Critical dogma insist that the author's intention and his biographical data play an essential role in understanding literary work. Comparing these two opposite viewsin literary criticism, I consulted the relevance of the writer's inten-tion to his work.
