A STUDY OF APPLYING CHILDREN'S POETRY INTO ENGLISH TEACHING

The purpose of this study is to suggest the efficiency of children`s poetry as we teach English for elementary or middle school students. For this purpose, this study suggests the criteria for the proper selection of children`s poetry. And according to these criteria I select the 57 poems for English teaching. I believe that these lists, although they don`t cover all kinds of children`s poetry, are available for English teaching for children. It is essential to apply appropriate teaching methods to maintain the interests and appreciation of children for the poetry. So I recommend three desirable teaching methods of English poetry to attract the young English learners. Enthusiasm is contagious. If a teacher is entusiastic for the teaching of children`s poetry, if he or she selects the appropriate teaching materials, and if he or she applies skillful methods into these poems, the effort of both the teachers and the students must be fruitful and paying off.
