This Study primarily aims at analysis of the social capital factor which affects successful adaptation of the North Korean settlers in South Korea. It also tries to address efficient supportive policies for the North Korean settlers. For the sake’s of these purposes, this study examined the effects of the social capital factor mediated by the effect of the self-efficacy factor to the life satisfaction scale among 219 North Korean settlers in Seoul and Gangwon Province. The structural equation modeling technique was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. Amos software was used to conduct confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results of SEM show that the social capital factor positively affects the life satisfaction scale mediated by the effect of self-efficacy factor. In support of previous studies, the social capital and the psychological factor was associated with greater life satisfaction of the North Korean settlers in South Korea.

본 연구의 목적은 북한이탈주민의 남한사회 적응에 영향을 미치는 요인을 사회과학적으로 분석하려는것이다. 북한이탈주민들의 지역사회 적응지표로서 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 선행요인들의 관계를 사회적 자본의 직접효과와, 개인적 자기효능감을 통한 간접효과로 설정하여 인과관계를 살펴보았다. 분석결과개인적 요인으로 설정한 자기효능감은 환경적 변수인 사회적 자본을 통해서 삶의 만족도에 긍정적인 매개효과를 나타내고 있다. 이러한 연구결과는 사회적 자본의 증진이 개인적 요인, 즉 자기효능감을 증진시키는효과를 통하여 북한이탈주민의 사회적 적응에 있어서 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다는 이론을 뒷받침한다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 함의가 제시된다. 본 연구에서 선행연구들과 마찬가지로 북한이탈주민 사회적응에 있어서 연령과 남한에서의 교육수준 등이 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치는 배경변수로 확인되었다. 그러나 심리적 요인인 자기효능감의 정도에 따라서 북한이탈주민의 적응에 영향을 미치고 있으므로 개인차에 따른 맞춤형 적응정책이 필요하다.
