Katsue Yuasa(湯淺克衛, 1910∼1982) is a second-generation Japanese writer living in Korea who spent his childhood and adolescent years in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. Yuasa as a Japanese writer dealt with and left behind more novels on Korea than anyone else by materializing the subjects, immigration and pioneer in his literary works. A “Joseon sijang,” or a Korean marketplace, is an important motif used by Yuasa as it appears in almost every work of his whose backdrop is often Suwon. What’s noteworthy is a Korean marketplace in Yuasa’s works doesn’t appear simply as a backdrop but plays an important role to materialize certain time and space; it is a place where important incidences take place or it becomes a turning point of an epic development. Thus, this study clarifies the role and meaning of a Joseon sijang as time and space in Yuasa’s literature. This study mainly discusses the process of their forming a sense of identity during which the second-generation Japanese who were born and raised in Korea become “Koreanized” and a correlation between a Joseon sijang and literary time and space. Through his works, writer Katsue Yuasa, the second-generation Japanese living in Korea, identifies his place with Joseon, the former name of Korea under Japanese rule, and materialized and expressed the collective identity of the second-generation who were differentiated from the former first-generation. Within in, a Korean marketplace holds a meaning and a role of time and space that closely connect the existential sense of belonging of the second-generation Japanese living in Korea becoming “Koreanized.”

유아사 가쓰에(1910∼1982)는 수원에서 자라 유소년시절을 보낸 재조(在朝)일본인2세 출신 작가로서, ‘이민’과 ‘개척’이라는 소재를 자신의 문학 안에서 형상화하면서그 누구보다도 조선을 다룬 소설을 많이 남긴 일본인 작가이다. ‘조선시장’은 수원을무대로 하는 유아사의 거의 모든 작품에서 보이는 중요한 모티프인데, 주목할 것은유아사 가쓰에의 작품에서 조선시장은 단순한 무대배경으로서 등장하는데 그치지 않고, 중요한 사건이 일어나는 장소이자 서사 전개에 있어 전환점이 되는 등 거듭 중요한 역할을 하는 시공간으로 형상화되고 있다는 사실이다. 이에 본고에서는 유아사문학에서 조선시장이라는 시공간이 수행하는 역할과 의미를 규명하였다. 특히 본고는 조선에서 나고 자란 재조일본인 2세들이 점점 ‘조선화’되어가는 자신의 정체성을형성하는 과정과 조선시장이라는 시공간의 상관관계를 중점적으로 논의하였다. 그 자신 재조일본인 2세 출신인 유아사 가쓰에는 작품을 통해 조선이라는 장소에동일화하고 기존의 1세대들과는 구별되는 2세대의 집단적 정체성을 형상화하고 표현하고 있는데, 그 속에서 조선시장은 점점 ‘조선화’되어 가는 재조일본인 2세들의 존재론적인 귀속의식이 긴밀히 연결되는 시공간으로서의 의미와 역할을 지니고 있는것이다.

湯淺克衛(1910∼1982)は水原で育ち、幼少年時代を過ごした在朝日本人二世出身の作家 として、｢移民｣と ｢開拓｣という素材を自分の文学のなかで形象化しながら、他の誰よりも朝 鮮を描いた小説を数多く書き残した日本人作家である。｢朝鮮市場｣は水原を舞台とする湯淺 の殆んどすべての作品で見られる重要なモチーフであるが、注目すべきことは湯淺克衛の作 品で朝鮮市場は単なる舞台背景として登場するに留まらず、重要な事件が起こる場所である と共に、叙事の展開において転換点となるなど、繰り返し重要な役割を演じる時空間として 形象化されているということである。そこで本稿では湯淺文学において朝鮮市場という時空 間が遂行する役割と意味を考察した。特に本稿では朝鮮で生まれ育った在朝日本人二世たち が次第に ｢朝鮮化｣していく自分のアイデンティティを形成する過程と、朝鮮市場という時空 間の相関関係を主に議論した。 　自分自身在朝日本人二世出身である湯淺克衛は作品を通して朝鮮という場所に同一化 し、既存の一世代たちとは区別される二世代の集団的アイデンティティを形象化し表現して いるが、その中で朝鮮市場は次第に ｢朝鮮化｣していく在朝日本人二世たちの存在論的な帰 属意識が緊密につなぎとめられる時空間としての意味と役割を持っているのである。
