College writing education has accomplished great development along with the improvement of college education quality. Many colleges run communication related curriculum as the mandatory course for freshman, and they run communication center to support the curriculum. Writing class in Paichai university is one of such cases. This research provided writing curriculum of Paichai university and the cases of writing class to provide the basis improvement of quality of higher education. Paichai university runs class as the mandatory liberal course for freshman. The purpose of this class is to lead freshman actively to academic community and to adapt into the environment. Through this, they are able to learn writing strategy and rhetoric strategy focusing on problem solving process, and practice it during the class. However, the writing ability of students cannot be improved only by class which is held twice a week, so the school runs to back up the system. In such writing education process, students are able to learn how to think actively and express own opinion. Especially, in academic community, the correction among seniors and junior is not the one-sided voice of professor. Deciding whether or not to listen to other's voice or to receive other's opinion is another method of learning. The satisfaction to such reading essay education is very high. Such case will contribute to future communication education study.

대학 글쓰기 교육은 대학 교육 질 제고의 바람을 타고 눈부신 발전을 이루었다. 많은 대학이 1학년 교양 필수 과목으로 의사소통 관련 교과를 운영하고 있으며, 이들 교과를 지원할 의사소통센터를 운영하고 있다. 배재대학교의 글쓰기교실도 이러한 사례 중 하나이다. 본 연구자는 배재대학교 <사고와표현> 교과와 글쓰기교실이 연계하여 운영하는 ‘독서에세이 쓰기’ 프로그램의 사례를 제시함으로써 대학 글쓰기교육의 질 제고 연구의 기반이 되고자 한다. ‘독서에세이 쓰기’ 프로그램은 신입생이 책을 읽은 뒤 에세이를 작성하고, 그것을 튜터에게 첨삭받는 튜터링 프로그램을 기반으로 한다. 이러한 운영 체계가 원활하게 운영되기 위하여 보조교재 제작, 글쓰기 상담 체계 구축, 튜터 교육, 연계 비교과 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 이러한 ‘독서에세이 쓰기’ 프로그램은 우수 학생을 양성하고, 양성된 학생은 교내 선순환적 학습체계에 기여하고, 이것은 다시 또 다른 우수 학생을 양성하는 사이클을 형성함으로써 신입생(튜티)들의 기초 글쓰기 교육 뿐 아니라 학부생(튜터)들 모두의 글쓰기 교육 상생의 효과를 도모한다. 이러한 배재대학교의 ‘독서에세이 쓰기’ 프로그램 사례 연구는 대학 교양 글쓰기 교육의 질적 제고의 흐름에 작은 기여를 할 수 있을 것이라 생각한다.
