The important characteristic of the research on modern Beijing history is that the docu-mentary publications and party history research have occupied a high position. There exist Party History Research Office of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CCP and Beijing Academy of Social Sciences as leading organization of party-state related modern Beijing history research. Various organizations of party-state including these two organizations have actively performed the project to publish chronicles, various resource book and mem-oirs. The published literatures have a rich variety as its theme ranges from overall Beijing to very classified themes according to its region and sector. Also various archives including Beijing Municipal Archives exist as the major foundation for these data publication and history narrative. Until now Beijing in the aspect as a capital has not been highlighted, its local history has been studied instead of capital history. The issues related to governing such as public order, hygiene, resident organization have attracted the attention.

近現代 北京史와 관련된 연구사에 나타나는 중요한 특징은 자료성 출판물과 黨史 연구가 높은 비중을 차지한다는 점이다. 近現代 北京史 연구와 관련된 당-국가의 중심적인 기구로서 中共北京市委 黨史硏究室과 北京市 社會科學院이 존재한다. 이 두 기관을 비롯한 당-국가의 각급 기구에서는 大事記, 각종 자료집, 회고록 등의 자료를 편찬하는 사업이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 출간되는 문헌들은 北京市 전체를 다룬 것부터 지역 및 분야에 따라 대단히 세분화된 주제를 다룬 것까지 풍부하고 다양하다. 또한 이러한 자료 편찬 및 역사서술의 중요한 기반으로서 北京市檔案館을 비롯한 다양한 檔案館이 존재한다. 지금까지의 近現代 北京史 연구에서 수도로서의 측면은 크게 주목받지 못했으며, 수도의 역사보다는 지방사로서 연구되었고, 치안, 위생, 주민조직 등 통치와 관련된 문제들이 비교적 많은 관심의 대상이 되었다.
