It requires the preparedness for FFE (fire following earthquake) as recent Kyeongju earthquake has increased the earthquake risk. The approach to extinguish FFE should be changed by considering the characteristics of FFE that is different from normal fires. FFE at great earthquakes occurs multiple simultaneously so that the access time to the site of FFE takes longer than normal due to collapsed buildings and roads. Roles of volunteer fire departments become critical for FFE. In addition it is necessary to prepare fire suppressions with natural water resources to allow disabled state of electricity, gas and water lines. The fire response manuals for cultural heritage should be revised to response adequately to FFE.

최근 경주 지진으로 인하여 지진 위험이 고조됨에 따라 지진은 물론 지진화재 위험으로부터 문화재를 보호 하는 대비가 필요하다. 지진화재는 일반화재와 다른 특징을 보이고 있어 화재진압의 접근방법 또한 달라져 야 한다. 대지진 시 지진화재는 동시다발로 발생하며 도로와 건물의 붕괴로 인하여 화재 지점까지 의 진입이 평상시보다 상당히 지연될 수 있다. 이로 인하여 지진화재 시에는 자위소방대의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 또한 대지진 시에는 전기·가스·수도 시설의 불능 상황시를 고려하여 자연수원을 이용한 화 재진압 방안을 강구해 야 하며 문화재별 화재대응지침서에는 지진화재에 대응할 수 있는 지침이 추가되 어야 한다.
