This study set out to investigate the differences of academic achievement and individual personality by levels of prior achievement and perceived competence. Total 364 middle school students were selected as subjects for this study from one middle school in Jeonju. The third graders participated in surveying both self-perception of competence and the individual personality test. We also used participants' school exam scores for last 2 years as prior achievement level and recent exam score as current achievement. One way ANOVA wewe used to analyze data. Conclusions from results and discussion are as follows:First, there were significant differences in academic achievement by the prior achievement levels. Second, the higher degree of three sub-factors that are physical competence, behavioral competence and global self-worth the higher Academic achievement. But lower degree of physical competence the higher Academic achievement. Third, the results show that the group of students which has higher degree of prior achievement level has high score in reasoning, openness to change, perfectionism, social boldness, emotional stability, Rule-Consciousness, privateness, dominance. Fourth, the levels of perceive competence for social, athletic, global self-worth, behavioral, and physical domain showed the difference of individual personality which of reasoning, stability, warmth, social boldness, privateness, perfectionism, rule-consciousness, apprehension, prudence, belief, dominance, anxiety, and tension.

이 연구에서는 학습자의 사전성취 수준 및 지각된 유능감에 따른 학업성취와 인성의 차이를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 중학교 3학년에 재학생이었으며, 연구 참여자의 전년도 학기말 성적, Harter(1982)의 자기능력지각척도, 연구 참여자의 최근 성적, 한국심리적성검사연구소(염태호․김정규, 1990년)의 한국판 인성 검사지 등에 의해 연구변인을 측정하였다. 연구결과, 사전성취 및 지각된 유능감 수준 따라 학업성취의 차이를 확인하였다. 특히, 사전성취 수준이 높은 경우 현재의 학업성취가 높았으며, 지각된 유능감 하위 영역 중 자기행동, 신체적 외모, 자기존중감 수준이 높은 학습자의 학업성취가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 사전성취 및 지각된 유능감 수준에 따라 인성의 차이를 확인하였다. 특히, 사전성취 수준이 높은 학생들이 인성의 하위영역 중 사고력, 진보성, 자제력, 대담성, 안정성, 성실성, 실리성, 지배성에서 높은 점수를 보였다. 지각된 유능감 하위 영역 중 사회능력, 운동능력, 자기존중감, 자기행동, 신체적 외모 지각 수준에 따라 인성의 하위 영역에 대한 차이가 나타났다. 이상의 연구 결과로부터 얻어진 시사점을 논의 하였다.
