The Law-Related Education Support Act of 2008 was enacted on the basis of The Law-Related Education Act of 1978 of the United States of 1978, and the law education aimed to raise the democratic citizen capacity developed greatly. It is obvious that the law-related education has achieved remarkable growth in a short period of time due to the Law-Related Education Support Act. However, due to the increase in citizens' awareness and the development of Law-Related Education, the existing law-related education support law is not able to appropriately support it. In order to do this, the basic principles of law-related education should be specified and a harmonization plan should be prepared with human rights education. In addition, concrete measures for civil law-related education should be prepared in order to escape legal education focused on school law education. And establish regulations on the training of legal education specialists in accordance with the expansion of legal education. Due to limitations of legal education centered on Ministry of Justice, it is necessary to distinguish roles between government ministries including Ministry of Education. Actual law-related education support should be defined, and the linkage between law school and lifelong education institute should be defined. More attention should be paid to the law-related education support law so that the law-related education of Korea that has been growing fast can be expanded in various fields.

미국의 1978년 법교육지원법을 모태로 하여 2008년 법교육지원법이 제정되면서 민주시민의 역량을 키우는데 목적이 있는 법교육은 크게 발 전하였다. 법교육지원법으로 인해 단기간에 법교육은 괄목할만한 성장을 이룬 것은 자명하다. 하지만 시민의식이 높아지고 법교육도 발전함에 따 라 기존의 법교육지원법으로는 이를 적절하게 지원하지 못하는 상황에 직면하고 있다. 이를 위해서는 우선 법교육의 기본원칙을 명시하고 인권교육과의 조화 방안을 마련하여야 한다. 또한 학교법교육에 치중된 법교육을 탈피하기 위하여 시민법교육에 대한 구체적인 방안이 마련되어야 한다. 법교육 확 대에 따른 법교육 전문인력의 양성에 관한 규정을 신설하여야 한다. 법 무부 중심의 법교육 추진의 한계로 인해 교육부를 비롯한 정부부처간의 역할 구분이 필요하다. 실질적인 법교육 지원이 규정되어야 하며 법학전 문대학원과 평생교육원의 연계 방안도 규정될 필요가 있다. 급성장해온 우리나라의 법교육이 보다 다양한 분야에서 확대될 수 있도록 법교육지원법에 대한 보다 많은 고민이 필요할 것이다.
