This research has a purpose to analyze the space in whole poems of Jeong, Ho-Seung, examine the relations between the space and changes in his world of poetry and consider his inward consciousness and view of the world. I think that the discussion of the space in his poems is necessary to understand his creative consciousness and poetry world, because the space is the essence of his poems. The nature objects of the poetry of Jeong, Ho-Seong is acted as a constituent of poetry and poets sang as a homogeneous community with both humans and nature. In other words, Jeong, Ho-Seong released poems that sought emotional harmony through empathy of humans and nature. This means that the poet is heading toward a childlike world of harmony between humans and nature. The space of nature and childhood in poems of Jeong, Ho-Seung is subdivided in to the space of life characteristics and the space of fairy-tale imagination. In his works, there are many poems about the nature and natural objects, and he aimed the world which the nature and human can coexisted on equal terms. In the space of life characteristics, objectified creatures are very impressive though they are very insignificant. In the huge space of the earth, he thought that human should coexist with creatures as human cannot live alone. The space of creature is forest, river, sea, on the road and etc. And the core of the space of fairy-tale imagination is the innocence of childhood, and human has a protoplasm to return the space of childhood. Fairy-tale imagination is one of devices which he can approach to readers and he wrote many poems based on fairy-tale imagination. The space to realize fairy-tale imagination is alley, front yard, mother’s breast, sea and etc. His childhood world based on fairy-tale imagination enriches his poetry world. Until now, many researches has discussed about poetry world and methodology of Jeong Ho-Seung’s poetry relatively, however, there are few researches about his literary space. Therefore, this research has a significance to make an attempt to approach the spatial research in his poetry.

본고는 정호승 시집 전체에 나타난 공간을 분석하여, 공간이 정호승 시 세계의 변모와 어떠한 관계를 가지고 있는지 살펴보고, 시인의 내면의식 과 세계관을 고찰하는 데에 목적이 있다. 정호승 시에 나타난 공간을 논 의하는 것은 공간이 시의 본질 가운데 하나로 시인의 창작 의식과 시세계 를 이해하는데 필요하다고 보았기 때문이다. 정호승의 시에 나오는 자연물은 시의 생성 주체로 작용하며 시인은 인 간과 자연을 대등한 공동체로 노래하였다. 즉 정호승은 인간과 자연의 감 정 이입을 통해 정서적으로 화합을 추구하는 시들을 다수 발표하였는데, 시인이 인간과 자연이 교감하여 조화롭게 살아가는 동심의 세계를 지향 하고 있음을 의미한다. 자연과 동심의 공간이 나타난 작품을 대상으로 생명성의 공간, 동화적 상상력의 공간으로 세분하였다. 정호승의 작품에서 자연과 자연물을 노래 한 시들이 다수 발견되는데 시인은 자연과 인간이 대등하게 상호 공존하는 세계를 지향한다. 생명성의 공간에서 대상이 된 생명체들은 미미한 존 재지만 큰 울림을 준다. 지구라는 거대한 공간 안에서 인간이 혼자 살아 갈 수 없듯이 인간은 생명체들과 공생하며 살아가야 한다는 게 시인의 생 각이다. 생명체들이 존재하는 공간은 숲, 강과 바다, 길 위 등이다. 동화적 상상력의 공간의 핵심 인자는 동심인데 인간은 동심의 공간으 로 회귀하고자 하는 원형질을 가지고 있다. 동화적 상상력은 정호승 시인 이 독자들에게 친숙하게 다가갈 수 있는 하나의 장치로 시인의 시에서 동 화적 상상력을 바탕으로 한 시가 많다. 동화적 상상력이 실현되는 공간은 골목길, 앞마당, 어머니의 젖가슴, 바다 등이다. 동화적 상상력이 바탕이 된 동심의 세계는 그의 시세계를 더욱 풍요롭게 해준다. 지금까지 정호승 시의 시세계나 방법론에 대한 연구는 비교적 논의 되어 왔으나, 문학 공간에 대한 연구는 매우 미흡하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 정호승 시의 공간 연구에 접근을 시도했다는 점에서 그 의의를 두고자 한다.
