In the rapidly changing world of modern society, research on the future with a conspicuous and long-term perspective in the field of clothing is essential. The starting point of this future study is to begin with an insight into how the future society will change over the medium and long-term perspective. In this study, various megatrends that can be expected in the future society predicted by future forecasting experts are discussed before the medium and long-term forecasts of the clothing sector. Then, I derived differentiated trends that are specific to the situation in Korea. The key elements of the trends of Korea are categorized and analyzed in terms of STEEP(social, technical, economic, ecological, political). The results of the study are as follows. First, Korea's future trends are largely divided into these categories including: ‘aging society’ from the social perspective, ‘development of IT(information technology) /BT(bio technology)/NT(nano technology)’ from the technical perspective, ‘climate change and resource depletion’, ‘relaxation of inter-Korean conflict' from the economic and political perspective. Second, the future clothing trend of Korea appears as ‘silver generation center', ‘combination of IT/BT/NT and clothes', ‘combination of 3D technology and clothing' and an ‘environment-friendly and resource-saving trend'. Third, the future trends and the various social phenomena resulting from them have interrelationship with clothing. From a macroscopic point of view, the change of the future clothing was mainly made up of clothing based on state-of-the-art science and technology including IT, and its purpose and function varied. This tendency suggests that the convergence of technology and clothing is the key of the future clothing and fashion industries in the medium long-term perspective. Therefore, future clothing and apparel industry can respond more efficiently and swiftly to the future situation with strategies and alternatives through mid to long-term forecasting.

빠르게 변화하는 현대사회에서 의류 분야에 있어서도 통섭적이고 장기적인 안목을 지닌 미래에 대한 연구가 반드시 필요한 시점이다. 이러한 미래 연구의 출발점은 미래 사회가 어떻게 변화할 것인지 중장기적인안목으로 그 흐름을 통찰하는 것으로부터 출발한다. 본 연구에서는 의류분야의 중장기적인 미래에 대한 예측에 앞서 미래예측전문가들이 예견하는 미래의 사회에서 발생할 수 있는 다양한 메가트렌드에 대하여 고찰하고 한국의 상황에 특수하게 나타나는 차별화된 트렌드를 도출하고자 하였다. 도출된 한국 트렌드와 의생활트렌드의 핵심 요소를 범주화하였으며 STEEP(social, technical, economic, ecological, political)의 관점으로 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국의 미래 트렌드는 크게 사회적 측면에서 ‘고령화 사회’, 기술측면에서 ‘IT(information technology)/BT(bio technology)/NT(nano technology)의 발전’, 환경 측면에서 ‘기후의변화와 자원의 고갈’, 경제와 정치적 측면에서 ‘남북갈등의 완화’로 나타났다. 둘째, 한국의 미래 의생활 트렌드는 사회적 측면과 연관되어 ‘실버 세대 중심’, 기술과 관련하여 ‘IT/BT/NT와 의복의 결합’, ‘3D 기술과 의복의 결합’, ‘신소재의 도입’, 환경과 관련하여 ‘친환경과 자원 절약의 풍조’로 나타났으며 경제와 정치 분야와연관된 의생활에 관한 트렌드는 언급된 경우가 매우 드문 것을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 다가올 미래 트렌드와이로 인해 발생하는 다양한 사회적 현상들은 의생활에 상호적 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 거시적관점에서 미래 의생활의 변화는 IT를 포함하는 최첨단 과학기술을 기반으로 하는 의복이 주를 이루었고 그목적과 기능이 다양하게 전개되었다. 이러한 경향은 중장기적인 관점에서 미래 의복과 그 관련 산업에서 보다 주목해야 할 부분이 바로 테크놀로지와 의복의 융합임을 시사하는 것이다. 따라서 이러한 중장기적인 미래예측을 통한 의복과 의류산업의 미래에 대한 전략과 대안을 마련할 때에 보다 효율적이고 신속한 대응이가능할 것이며 미래의 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있을 것이다.
