This study aims at investigating the effects of story dramas on the process and result of reconstructing stories among elementary school students, by designing and applying a story reconstruction education utilizing story dramas. Story dramas incorporate the conventional literary appreciation model which focuses on the learners and their responses, and it is also interactively connected to dramatic factors. Through story dramas, students can inquire into a variety of other possibilities by which the stories could unfold, and come up with a new story by themselves. This is well connected to story reconstruction education, which guides students to actively construct the contents of a literary work and rewrite it, on the basis of understanding the literature. In this context, this study presents the research questions as follows: First, how to design instructional process of reconstructing stories by utilizing story dramas? Second, what effect does a method of story reconstruction by utilizing story dramas have in the process and result of reconstructing stories among elementary school students? In order to answer those questions, this study first investigates the purposes and contents of story reconstruction education, and the concept and methodology of story drama. Based on the investigation, a teaching & learning method was designed by modifying and supplementing the response-based teaching model. The designed method was applied to the teaching practice. The teaching process and the result data was qualitatively analyzed. The implication from this study is as follows: First, story dramas provide students with a new experience of literature. Due to the nature of elementary students, they could appreciate a literary work more autonomously by acting out together and involving themselves in the assumed situation of the story, rather than by reading the original text. Second, a story drama provides the basis on which students can effectively reconstruct the story, through the critical reflection on the literary work. Through the experience of ‘Live the Story’ in the story drama, students can understand the described situation from the perspective of a character and of an outsider as well. This process helps them search a possibility of that story to be reconstructed. The results of this study can be applied practically to the settings of literary education so that instructors can plan and activate more meaningful instructional methods on learner-based literary appreciation and reconstructing stories.

본 연구는 스토리드라마를 활용하여 이야기 재구성 교육방법을 설계하고 적용해 봄으로써 스토리드라 마가 초등학생의 이야기 재구성 과정과 결과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 스토리드라마는 학습자 중심, 반응 중심을 기반으로 한 기존의 문학 감상 방법을 포함하면서 드라마적 요소와 유기적으로 연결되어 있다. 학생들은 스토리드라마를 통해 이야기의 다양한 가능성을 탐구하고 주도적으로 이야기를 만들어나갈 수 있다. 이는 학습자가 주체적으로 문학 작품의 내용을 파악하고 의 미를 구성하여 재생산해내는 이야기 재구성 교육과도 연결된다. 따라서 연구자는 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 첫째, 스토리드라마를 활용한 이야기 재구성 교육 방법을 어떻게 설계할 것인가? 둘째, 스토리드라마를 활용한 이야기 재구성 교육이 초등학생의 이야기 재구성 과정과 결과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 이와 같은 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 먼저 이야기 재구성 교육의 목적과 교육내용 및 스토리드라마의 개념과 방법을 살펴보고 반응 중심 학습모형을 수정․보완하여 교수․학습 방법을 설계하였다. 설계한 내 용을 실제 수업에 적용하여 수업 과정 및 결과 자료를 질적으로 분석한 후, 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 스토리드라마는 학생들에게 새로운 문학 체험의 기회를 제공한다. 초등학생들은 특성상 문학을 텍스트로 읽는 것보다 같이 몸으로 표현해보고 가정된 이야기 상황 속으로 몰입하면서 작품을 주체적으 로 이해하고 효과적으로 감상할 수 있다. 둘째, 스토리드라마는 문학작품에 대한 비판적 성찰을 통해 학생들이 이야기를 효과적으로 재구성할 수 있는 토대를 제공한다. 학생들은 스토리드라마의 ‘살아보기’ 경험을 통해 인물의 입장에서 사건을 고찰 하는 동시에 외부자의 입장에서 작품을 다각도로 살펴보며 작품의 다양한 재구성 가능성을 모색할 수 있다. 위와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 앞으로 현장에서는 더욱 의미 있는 학습자 중심 문학 감상 교육 및 이야기 재구성 교육을 계획하고 실행할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
