This research examined the influence of youth social capital on the human rights consciousness and the mediating effects of the self esteem. The youth human rights survey data of the NYPI(National Youth Policy Institute) were used and 9521 high school students of man and woman were analyzed. The SPSS 20.0 program was utilized for the demographic characteristics and correlation analysis and AMOS 20.0 program was used for the structural equation model(SEM) analysis. The results indicated the significant mediating effects of the self esteem and the significant influence of the youth social capital on human rights consciousness. First, family social capital, school social capital, and community social capital effected on the human consciousness significantly. Second, family social capital and school social capital effected on the self esteem significantly and community social capital yielded non-significant effects on the path. Third, self esteem effected significantly on human rights consciousness and the mediating effects of the self esteem on human rights consciousness were yielded significantly. Several discussions and implications for the improvement of human rights consciousness among young people were suggested based on the study results.

본 연구의 목적은 청소년의 사회자본이 자아존중감의 매개를 통해 인권의식에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원이 조사한 아동․청소년 인권실태 조사 자료 중 2016년 부터 공개가능한 데이터를 활용하여 중고등학교에 재학 중인 남녀학생 9,521명을 분석하였다. 기술 분석 및 상관관계 분석을 위해 SPSS 20.0 프로그램을 이용하였고, AMOS 20.0 프로그램을 이용하여 구조방정식 모형을 검증하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 가정 사회자본, 학교 사회자본, 지역사회 사회자본이 인권의식에 이르는 경로는 모두 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회자본이 자아존중감에 이르는 경로에서 가정 사회자본, 학교 사회자본이 유의미한 것으로 나타났고, 지역 사회자본이 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자아존중감이 인권의식에 미치는 경로는 유의미한 것으로 나타났으며, 가정 사회자본, 학교 사회자본의 경우 자아존중감의 매개효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과를 토대로 청소년의 인권의식을 신장할 수 있는 방안들을 제시하였다.
