연구배경 도시화가 고도화 되고 도시를 중심으로 집중되었던 생활환경이 주변으로 확장되면서 다양한 인간관계를 중요시하는 커뮤니티에 대한 중요성이 부각되어진다. 커뮤니티를 구성하는 물리적인 환경과 이를 이용하는 구성원사이의 관계는 커뮤니티디자인으로 규정될 수 있는데 다양화된 커뮤니티를 위해서는 환경과 구성원 간의 보완적 이해와 이를 통합할 수 있는 표준적인 방법론의 제시가 필요하다. 연구방법 먼저 선행연구의 고찰을 통해 커뮤니티디자인의 발전과정과 주요한 논점에 대하여 파악을 한 후 커뮤니티디자인의 의미와 개념에 대하여 이해한다. 사례를 연구를 통한 실제적인 현장 적용에서 발생하는 커뮤니티디자인을 개념적으로 분류한 후 지역과 구성원 그리고 외부 전문가 혹은 문제해결을 위한 참여집단 간의 관계성을 분석한다. 연구결과 일반적으로 디자인은 형태를 만들고 내용을 매체로 전환시키는 제한된 범위에서의 조형행위로 인식되어 왔다. 이에 반해 커뮤니티디자인은 디자인의 일반적 기능을 포함하여 물리적 환경과 구성원들이 합일적인 소통과정을 통해 도출해낸 문제점을 조화시켜 커뮤니티의 지속가능한 환경을 만드는 과정임을 확인할 수 있다. 이 과정에서 제도화된 행정력과 외부 전문가 집단은 고립된 기능적 요소가 아닌 지역의 문제를 공감하는 주체로서 함께 기능하게 되고, 궁극적으로 지역의 통합적인 정체성을 확립하게 되는 프로세스의 필수 요소로 수렴하게 된다. 결론 커뮤니티디자인은 도시와 커뮤니티에 있어 계획적이고 기능적인 측면의 환경개선사업 성격의 지역개발 논리를 구성원의 합의와 소통을 중심으로 지속가능한 집단적 정체성을 만드는 무형의 에너지를 생산하는 프로세스로 기능함을 목표로 한다. 이러한 과정 속에서 물리적환경과 구성원은 통합적인 요소로서 이해되어야 한다.
