This article examined the relationship between evangelism and narcissism. Many people insist that Korean churches are facing with emergent crisis because of decreasing of congregation numbers. How can Korean Churches over the crisis? In this aspect, this article explored real meaning of evangelism to provide overcome the crisis. Evangelism is a process not an event. In this process, God has to make it come to life, grow and bear spirituality. But the problem is spiritual narcissism which can be described by God’s Words. In other words, individuals worship self and pray for their desires instead of God and others. Narcissistic people look for God who can satisfy their desire in their prayer and worship. In order to come closer to God, the self need to realize its own limitation and reality which is very similar to Catherine of Sinner’s spirituality. According to her, a growing self-knowledge is necessary in order to understand and realize God’s love. Self-knowledge cannot be separated from knowledge of God and became the basis of spiritual journey, because self-knowledge helped the souls recognize their limitedness and responsibility. Therefore, spiritual growth and recovering from narcissism help people be aware their own reality and God's love. This awareness causes them to have compassion for neighbors. It can be the essential nature of evangelism.

이 연구는 나르시시즘(Narcissism)으로부터 회복되는 과정과 영적인 성숙이 진정한 의미에서의 전도임을 탐색하였다. 나르시시즘은 모든 생각과 감정 그리고 욕망이 자신에게 맞추어져 다른 사람들을 보지 못하고 폄하하고 무시하게 만든다. 이러한 사람들은 교회 안의 영적인 생활 속에서도 자신의 욕구에만 초점을 맞추어 하나님과 타인을 바라보지 못하는 비극적인 상황을 낳기도 한다. 이러한 문제로부터 회복되는 것은 캐서린 씨에나(Catherine of Siena)가 설명하는 영적인 성숙과 일맥상통한다. 캐서린은 영적으로 성숙하기 위해서 무엇보다 자신에 대한 지식을 깨닫고 하나님께 의지해야 하며 하나님의 끊임없는 사랑이 인간으로 하여금 하나님의 사랑을 깨닫고 그 사랑이 이웃에게 향하게 된다고 말한다. 다시 말하면 자신을 제대로 인식해야만 하나님의 사랑도 깨달을 수 있고 타인에 대한 연민도 생겨나게 되는 것이다. 영적 성숙과 나르시시즘으로부터의 회복의 공통점은 자신에 대한 깨달음이다. 인간의 한계성을 깨닫게 되면서 인간은 하나님을 찾고 의존하게 되는 것이다. 그리고 그 깨달음으로 이웃에게 사랑을 전하게 되는 데 이것은 진정한 의미에서 전도이다. 전도란 일회성의 사건이 아니라 하나님의 복음을 전하고 복음을 받아들인 사람들이 평생 하나님께 가까이 갈 수 있도록 돕는 과정이라는 것이다. 이러한 이해 속에서 나르시시즘의 회복과 영적 성숙은 위기의 한국 교회가 생각해야할 근본적인 전도의 의미를 제시하고 있다고 할 수 있다.
