This study is to observe revised the employment system for police officers on a written examination which has the highest standard for evaluation and is performed to know the acknowledgement of present police officers about their duty abilities and subjects for examination. Moreover it is to suggest improvement schemes for the present police officers’ written examination. First, the revised the employment system for police officers doesn’t have validity so it should be revised. That is, mathematics and science which are compulsory subjects should be excluded and law including crime code, crime procedure code, administrative law and police administration such as police science, criminal investigation science, crime science, criminology should be specified as compulsory subjects. So the examination can be sought balance between cultural area and special one and secure validity that is an objective element in a written examination. Second, there is need a complex scheme which decides duty abilities. Because present selective test has a limit to be evaluated, it is needed to authorize these elements with an essay test. Also it is necessary to introduce ethics and evaluate police officers’ abilities considering their frequently occurring cases such as drunken abscondence, rape, sexual harassment, relaxation of disciplines.

본 연구에서는 변경된 경찰공무원 채용시험제도에 대하여 채용시험 중 비중이 가장 높 은 필기시험과목을 중심으로 현직에 근무하는 경찰공무원을 대상으로 경찰관의 직무능력 및 채용시험과목에 대한 인식에 대하여 설문조사를 하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 현행 순경공 채필기시험에 대한 시사점 및 개선방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 첫째, 변경된 순경공개채용 필기시험은 타당성을 결여하고 있으므로 현재의 필기시험 과목을 개선해야 한다. 선택과목인 수학 및 과학을 시험과목에서 제외시키고, 법학(형법, 형사소송법, 행정법 등) 및 경찰행정(경찰학개론, 수사, 범죄학 등)과 관련된 과목을 필수과 목으로 지정하여 교양부문과 전문부문의 균형성을 추구하고 필기시험의 객관적 요소인 타 당성을 확보하여야 한다. 둘째, 직무능력을 판단할 수 있는 종합적인 평가방법이 필요하다. 현행의 객관식 시험으 로 평가하기에는 일정한 한계를 지니고 있기 때문에 논술시험을 도입하여 이러한 요소들 을 검정할 필요가 있다. 또한 최근 빈발하고 있는 경찰관의 음주뺑소니 사건이나 성폭 행․성추행 사건, 기강해이 등을 볼 때 윤리과목(인성)을 도입하여 평가하는 것이 필요하다고 본다.
