The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between fire-fighting officers’ PTSD and their physical and mental health, especially the moderating effect of social support between the two variables. For the purpose, a questionnaire was developed to measure all the variables in the research model, which was distributed to 200 fire-fighting officers working at 16 fire stations in a Kangwon-do. And a total of 162 usable questionnaires were processed using SPSS Win(ver 22.0). The results of this study are as follows. First, it showed that fire-fighting officers’ PTSD had a serious effect on their physical and mental health. Second, it showed that social support moderated the influence relationship between fire-fighting officers’ PTSD and their physical and mental health. This research results revealed that firstly, there's a need for the establishment of organizational and institutional strategies to prevent or palliate the fire-fighting officers’ PTSD, for example the establishment of a critical incident stress management team, the development of an educational program etc. Secondly, there’s an urgent need for the activation of social support networks to buffer against the negative effects of fire-fighting officers’ PTSD on their physical and mental health.

본 연구는 소방공무원들의 PTSD가 신체 및 정신 건강에 미치는 영향을 알아보고 PTSD와 신체 및 정신 건강과의 관계에서 사회적 지지의 조절효과를 실증적으로 분석하는데 근본목 적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 PTSD에 대한 이론 및 선행연구에 대한 종합적인 검토를 바 탕으로 연구모형을 도출하고, 연구모형을 구성하고 있는 변수들의 관계를 측정하기 위하여 강원소방본부 산하 16개 소방서에 근무하고 있는 소방공무원 200명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 회수된 설문지에 대한 편집과정을 거쳐 유효 설문지 총162부를 SPSS Win 22.0 프 로그램을 이용하여 통계 처리하였다. 분석결과는 첫째, 소방공무원의 PTSD는 그들의 신체 및 정신건강에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 소방공무원에 대한 사회적 지지 는 PTSD가 신체 및 정신건강에 미치는 부정적인 영향을 일정부분 완화하고 조절하는 것으 로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석결과를 바탕으로 도출된 함의는 첫째, 소방공무원의 외상후 스 트레스를 완화하고 회복시켜 줄 수 있는 조직 및 제도적 장치, 예컨대 위기상황 스트레스 관리팀의 설치 및 운영, 전문교육 프로그램의 개발 및 운영 등이 필요하고, 둘째, 소방공무 원의 PTSD가 신체 및 정신건강에 미치는 부정적인 영향을 완충할 수 있는 사회적 지지망에 대한 관심과 활성화가 시급한 것으로 분석되었다.
