The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-analysis by aggregating results from studies of emotion-related variable in music therapy for elderly. 36 of master and doctoral theses and journal articles, published from 2000 to 2015, were analyzed by being categorizing into independent variable, dependent variable, and moderating variable. According to the study results, overall mean effect size from total 65 effect sizes was -0.280 and this result was statistically significant. Among the independent variables which were analyzed by being divided into active, receptive, and combined activity, the variable of active music therapy had a highest effect size. Moreover, dependent variables were classified by sub-category based on a purpose of treating and they had high effect sizes for every category and the effect size of feeling loneliness was biggest. Among moderating variables, elderlies with dementia showed a large effect size according to object types and over 16 times of treatment session had a biggest effect size. Lastly, in the analysis based on researcher’s background, there was no difference between music therapy category and other categories.

이 연구는 노인 대상 음악치료 연구 중 정서 영역에 대한 연구 결과를 종합하여 메타분석 을 실시한 것이다. 연구 대상은 2000년부터 2015년까지 발표된 석․박사 학위 및 학술지 논문 36편으로 독립 변인, 종속 변인, 조절 변인으로 구분하여 분석했다. 연구 결과 총 65개 의 효과크기로부터 평균 효과크기 -.280이 도출되었고 통계적으로 유의미했다. 능동적, 수 동적, 혼합 활동으로 나누어 분석한 독립 변인의 경우 능동적 활동의 효과크기가 가장 컸 다. 또 종속 변인은 중재 목적에 따라 정서 영역을 하위 항목 별로 구분하였고 모든 항목 에서 큰 효과크기를 나타냈으며 그중 고독감의 효과크기가 가장 컸다. 조절 변인 중 대상 유형에 따라서는 치매 노인이 큰 효과크기를 보였고 치료 회기 수에 따라서는 16회 이상 일 때 효과크기가 가장 큰 것으로 확인됐다. 마지막으로 연구자 배경에 따른 분석에서는 음악치료 영역과 기타 영역 간에 큰 차이가 없었다.
