A car is often repaired using used parts. The Automobile Management Act provides that used parts be used to repair cars. This study investigated and analyzed a fire case that a bus caught fire four days after changing its engine using a used part. The results of dismantling an engine showed that a broken engine oil pan caused a hole and engine oil leakage, the lack of engine oil did not perform lubrication and cooling, and finally an engine overheated and a fire broke out. The analysis suggested that the cause of the bus fire could be associated with maintenance defect. Therefore, the responsibility of the bus fire may rest with the car service center using a used engine and not with a bus owner.

중고부품을 사용하여 차량을 수리하는 경우가 있으며, 자동차관리법에서도 중고부품을 차량 을 수리하는데 사용할 있도록 규정하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 중고엔진으로 교체하고 4일 후 주 행 중 발생한 버스화재 사례를 조사 분석하였다. 그 결과, 엔진오일팬이 깨져 구멍이 뚫려서 엔진오일이 누유되어 엔진오일이 부족하게 되어서 윤활작용과 냉각작용을 하지 않아서 엔진이 과열되어 화재가 발생하였음을 엔진을 분해하여 입증하였다. 또한 이 버스화재의 원인은 정비 결함과 관련된 것으로 분석하였다. 그리고 이 버스화재의 화재발생 책임은 버스 소유자 측에 있지 않고 중고엔진으로 교체한 정비공장에 있는 것으로 분석하였다.
