The purpose of this study was to find out newspapers’ negative evaluations about nuclear energy on perceptions toward nuclear safety regulations, mediated by the nuclear energy risk and the effective value perceptions. The results showed that the risk perception toward nuclear energy was decreased as newspapers evaluated the nuclear energy negatively(γ＝－0.28, t ＝－4.16, p ＜.01, one-tailed test) while the effective value perception toward nuclear energy was increased as newspapers evaluated the nuclear energy negatively(γ＝0.20, t ＝2.99, p＜ .01, one-tailed test). However, the causal relationship between the positive perception toward the nuclear safety regulation and the newspapers’ negative evaluations about nuclear energy was not significant(γ＝0.10, t ＝1.55, n.s). The positive perception toward the nuclear safety regulation was decreased as the risk perception toward the nuclear energy increased(β＝－0.57, t ＝8.99, p ＜.01, one-tailed test). But, the positive perception toward safety regulation was increased as the effective value perceptions toward nuclear energy increased(β＝ 0.14, t ＝2.45, p ＜.01, one-tailed test).

본 연구는 원자력 위험인식과 효용성을 매개변인으로 하여 원자력과 관련된 언론보도에대한 부정적 인식이 원자력 안전규제 인식에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 각 변인들과의 관계를 5가지 가설을 통해 검증해 보고자 하였다. 검증 결과, 원자력 관련 언론보도에 대한 부정적 인식이 높을수록 원자력 위험인식은 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며(γ＝ －0.28, t ＝－4.16, p ＜.01, 단측검정), 원자력 효용성 인식은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다(γ＝0.20, t ＝2.99, p ＜.01, 단측검정). 또한 <연구가설 3>에서는 원자력 관련 언론보도에 대한 부정적 인식이 높을수록 원자력 안전규제 인식은 증가할 것이라고 예측하였다. 분석 결과 이는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타났다(γ＝0.10, t ＝1.55, n.s). 이 밖에 원자력에 대한 위험인식이 높을수록 원자력 안전규제에 대한 긍정적인 인식은 감소하는 것으로 나타났으며(β＝－0.57, t ＝8.99, p ＜.01, 단측검정), 마지막으로 원자력에 대한 효용성 인식이 높을수록 원자력 안전규제에 대한 긍정적 인식은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다(β＝0.14, t ＝2.45, p ＜.01, 단측검정).
