Nowadays diverse academic areas discuss “mentoring.” For example, in counseling, many scholars mention the “mentoring-focused counseling;” in education, many scholars emphasize the “mentoring-centered educational method;” in administration, many scholars refer to the “mentoring-styled leadership.” This phenomenon shows the request of an era about “mentoring.” Furthermore, the democratic society does not want vertical relationships, but horizontal relationships between a professor and a student, a senior and a junior, and a pastor and a lay person. Keeping up with this stream of times, a seminary should develop diverse mentoring programs and implement them in order to give seminary students useful opportunities to find their identities and map out their career paths. The educational method of mentoring is one of the important Christian educational methods because the educational contents deliver to mentees by sharing their lives, thoughts, and feelings with their mentors in a cooperative and trusting relationship. With this interest, this study examined the general theories about the mentoring, introduced some mentoring programs that the Korean Universities have implemented, and presented some mentoring programs that the Korean seminaries can implement.

요즘은 많은 학문의 영역에서 “멘토링”을 논하고 있다. 상담학에서도“멘토링”적 상담을 이야기하며, 교육학에서도 “멘토링” 교수법을 강조하며, 행정학에서도 “멘토링”의 리더십을 언급한다. 다양한 분야에서 논의가되고 있다는 것은 멘토링에 대한 시대적인 요청이 있다는 뜻이다. 민주주의 사회에서 교수와 학생, 선배와 후배, 목회자와 평신도 간의 수직적인 구조의 인간관계가 아닌, 사랑과 배려 안에서 수평적인 구조의 인간관계를추구하고자 하는 열망이 드러나는 것이다. 이러한 시대적 현상에 발맞추어신학교는 다양한 멘토링 프로그램을 개발하고 도입할 필요가 있다. 멘토링을 통한 교육이야말로 삶을 통해, 인격적인 관계를 통해 가르침의 내용이전달되는 진정한 기독교교육학적인 방법이다. 현재 한국교회의 신뢰는 땅바닥에 떨어지고, 선교에 대한 열정은 식어지며, 교회는 감소하고 있는 이시점에서 신학교가 신학생들에게 제공해줄 수 있는 멘토링 프로그램은 진로교육에 관한 것이어야 한다. 자신의 정체성을 깨닫고 하나님께서 자신에게 주신 사명을 따라 졸업 후 구체적인 진로를 찾을 수 있도록 멘토링 프로그램을 통해 신학생들을 도와주어야 한다. 특히 교회에서뿐만 아니라, 사회에서 빛과 소금의 역할을 감당할 일꾼들을 키워야 한다. 사회 안에서 하나님의 가치로 일하는 신학교 졸업생들이 많아질 때 도시선교, 직장선교, 문화선교에 새로운 지평이 열릴 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 관심을 가지고멘토링에 대한 일반적인 이론을 살펴보았고, 한국의 종합대학교에서 시행하고 있는 멘토링 프로그램 몇 가지를 소개했고, 그다음 신학교에서 시행할 수 있는 멘토링 프로그램을 제시했다.
