The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations among early maladaptive schema, procrastination and depression in adults and to examine the mediating effects of depression. For the purpose of this study, the subjects of 400 selected adults in the region of South Gyeongsang province completed the YSQ-S (Young Schema Questionnaire), the AIP (Adult Inventory of Procrastination) and the CES-D (Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression). The mediation effect analysis method by Baron & Kenny (1986) and Sobel (1982) verification was accomplished to verify relations among variables and mediating effect. The findings of the study were as follows. First, depression is partially mediated between early maladaptive schema and procrastination. Second, depression has partial mediating effect when investigating the effect of disconnection and rejection schema, impaired autonomy and impaired performance schema, impaired limits schema which are subcategories of early maladaptive schema on procrastination. Third, depression produced complete mediation effects when other-directedness schema among the subfactors of early maladaptive schema impacted on procrastination. Fourth, depression has no mediating effects when the overvigilance and inhibition schema variable which is a subfactor of early maladaptive schema exerted an influence on procrastination. Finally, this study ends up with the implications of the study results, limitations and future research directions.

본 연구의 목적은 성인을 대상으로 초기부적응도식, 지연행동, 우울의 관계에 대해 알아보고 우울의 매개효과를 검증하는데 있다. 이를 위해 경남 지역의 성인 400명을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였으며, 초기부적응도식, 지연행동, 우울 척도를 측정도구로 사용하였다. 변인 간 관계 및 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 Baron과 Kenny(1986)가 제안한 매개효과 분석방법 및 Sobel(1982) 검증을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 초기부적응도식이 지연행동에 미치는 영향에 대한 우울은 부분 매개효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 초기부적응도식의 하위영역이 지연행동에 미치는 영향에 대한 우울의 매개효과 분석에서는 단절 및 거절 도식, 손상된 자율성 및 손상된 수행 도식, 손상된 한계 도식이 지연행동에 미치는 영향에 대해 우울은 부분 매개효과를 보였다. 셋째, 초기부적응도식의 하위영역 중 타인 중심성 도식과 지연행동의 관계에 대해 우울이 완전 매개효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 초기부적응도식의 하위영역 중 과잉경계 및 억제 도식이 지연행동에 미치는 영향에 대해 우울은 매개효과를 가지지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 연구의 결과에 대한 시사점과 제한점 및 후속 연구에 대한 제언을 하였다.
