Facility noise in apartment houses is one of major complaints on noise. Bath and toilet equipments noise such as water supply/drain noise and toilet flush noise are the most well known facility noise, and mostly concerned research subject on that field. According to recent investigation, balcony drain noise is the second rated noise problem. The unreasonably legalized extended balcony in apartment houses in 2005 has been making the balcony area half-outside-half-inside space. That causes unexpected drain through non insulated drain pipe works inside the living area. It is focused that the drain noise problem between extended and non-extended units, as they use the balcony differently, as a service area and a living area. The actual noise levels are measured in balcony, and the major reason why the balcony drain noise is pointed the second major facility noise is investigated. Design method to prevent the excessive balcony drain noise in new apartment houses is also investigated, and a drain cover for mitigating the balcony noise problem in old apartment houses is proposed.

본 연구는 서비스 공간으로서의 발코니와 거실로 확장된 발코니 사이에서 발생할 수 있는 배수소음 문제에 대해 초점을 맞추고 있다. 설비소음에 대한 공동주택 거주자들의 반응을 기초로 발코니 배수소음의 문제가 소음으로 인한 불편의 수준에 이르렀다는 가설을 수립하고 이를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 공동주택 3곳을 대상으로 발코니에서의 배수소음과 인접실인 거실과 안방에서의 소음레벨을 측정하여 발코니 배수소음의 영향정도를 파악하였다. 또한, 발코니 배수관의 각 부분에 대한 소음배출정도를 파악함으로서 발코니 배수소음을 저감하기 위한 방안을 제시하고자 하였다.
