As the informationization is spread throughout society, the statistical DB analysis is also being extended to the humanities. This study aims to present the empirical techniques that can check the military examination candidates(武科及第者) in Joseon Dynasty. As a result, even if incomplete, some statistics were calculated by DB query and a new areas for research were also derived in part. However, the raw materials should be ensured in order to apply statistical techniques. This study was possible because a massive military examination candidates had been accumulated. Humanities researchers are a lot of resources possessive. So they reluctant to open the raw data. Research institutions also have this tendency. Recently the government has been actively promoting the government 3.0, public data opening policy. This policy is intended to promote academic research as well as create economic value using the public open data. In the government-run open data portal, there are a variety of resources produced by public institutions. These changes can be a good opportunity for skilled researchers in digital techniques. Then you should know data processing techniques to catch up the opportunity. This paper presents the author's experience, that will help to cope with these changes and make a good result.

정보화가 사회 전반으로 확산되면서, 데이터베이스 분석을 이용한 연구가 인문학 연구 전반까지도 급속하게 확장되고 있다. 인문학 분야 중 역사 분야도 컴퓨터 통계 기법을 이용한 연구가 그리 활발하지 않은 분야였지만 이러한 연구 경향이 증가하고 있다. 이 연구는 조선시대 무과 급제자 DB를 조회하여 평민 급제자의 출현 시기, 무과 급제자 전력 및 가정환경, 무과의 시대적 변천 등, 그동안 문헌 중심으로 연구되었던 것들을 실증적으로 확인해 볼 수 있는 경험적 기법을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 불완전하나마 DB 조회를 통해 몇 가지 통계를 산출해 보았고 동시에 새로운 연구가 필요한 부분도 일부 도출하여 보았다. 그런데 통계 기법을 적용하기 위해서는 사전에 축적한 원시 자료가 있어야 한다. 이 연구도 그동안 필자가 축적한 방대한 무과 급제자 정보가 바탕이 되었기 때문에 가능할 수 있었다. 인문학 연구자들은 자료 소유욕이 크다. 따라서 원시 자료 공개를 꺼리는 경향이 많다. 이런 경향은 연구 기관도 마찬가지이다. 그런데 최근 정부는 정부3.0 공공 데이터 개방 정책을 적극 추진하고 있다. 연구 기관이 보유한 자료를 공개하여 학문 연구 진흥은 물론 경제적 가치 창출에 활용할 수 있게 하기 위함이다. 정부가 운영하는 공공데이터 포털에는 교육, 문화관광, 과학기술 분야 기관들이 공개한 다양한 자료들이 있다. 이러한 환경 변화는 디지털 분석 기법이 능숙한 연구자들에게는 좋은 기회가 되고 있다. 그러나 활용 방법을 모르면 변화가 주는 기회를 살릴 수 없다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 변화에 능동적으로 대처하여 더 많은 연구 성과를 내는 데 도움이 될 만한 필자의 경험을 제시하였다.
