The Mediating Effects of Subordinate’s Emotion on the Relation between Leadership and Turnover Intention : Focused on Family Restaurants

Today the foodservice industry continues to be a growing industry in every country. Especially, the five-day workweek, increased leisure time and improved living standards have led to grow the foodservice industry in S. Korea. We expect the industry is promoting the economy and creating more jobs. Therefore, the Government tries to consider raising policy for foodservice industry, and many colleges and institutes produce a number of foodservice professionals. However, we has suffered from shortage of manpower in that industry every year. Experts say the reason of the problem such as low wages and long working hours and so on. But solving this problem should be considered for growth of foodservice industry. This study focuses on the constructs leadership, turnover intention and emotion. Especially, we examined the mediating effect of emotion on the relation between leadership and turnover intention to suggest implications for prevention for employees turnover and effective human resource management in foodservice. In order to achieve the purpose, the questionnaires were distributed to family restaurants' employees via internet and sheets, and collected 521. But 488 valid samples were finally analyzed by SPSS 21.0. This study found that leadership affects turnover intention. Also there is the mediating effect of emotion on the relation between leadership and turnover intention. We found the significant relationship between emotion and demographic characteristic in further analysis as well. The limitations and managerial implications stemming from the empirical findings about this study are discussed.
