This study seeks to analyze the effects of creative teaching and learning methods on students’ creativity. For this purpose, we investigated levels of the two variables, differences of perceptions depending on the background variables, and the effects of creative teaching and learning methods along with student characteristics and school characteristics on students’ creativity. Utilizing the survey data of 1,636 middle school teachers and students across Seoul of South Korea extracted from the 「Seoul Education Longitudinal Study(SELS)」 administered by the Seoul Education Research & Information Institute, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analysis are performed. The data analysis shows that most teachers apply creative teaching and learning methods to their teaching activities in a higher level regardless of their personal backgrounds or school characteristics. However, the level of students creativity differs depending upon personal backgrounds as well as school characteristics such as monthly household income and ’class size, although the average level of creativity is considerably high. Finally, there is a statistically significant relationship between teachers’ application of creative teaching and learning methods and students’ creativity. Based on the findings, we discussed the importance of the creative teaching and learning methods of teachers in improving the students’ creativity, and draw a few policy implications including teacher pre-service and in-service education.

본 연구는 중학교 교사의 창의적 교수학습방법이 학생의 창의성에 미치는 영향을 다각도에서 분석함으로써 교사들이 적용하는 창의적 교수학습방법의 효과를 실증적으로 분석할 목적으로 수행되었다. 교사의 창의적 교수학습방법과 학생의 창의성을 핵심 변인으로 설정하고, 각각의 수준, 배경변인에 따른 차이, 영향관계 등을 「서울교육종단연구」의 제6차년도 중학교 데이터 중 교사와 학생 각각 818명의 응답자료를 활용하여 기술통계, 차이분석, 위계적 회귀분석방법으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 교사들은 다양한 수업보조자료를 활용하고 학생들이 아이디어를 낼 수 있는 자유로운 수업분위기를 조성하는 등 창의적 교수학습방법을 교사 개인의 배경이나 학교 특성에 관계없이 상당히 높은 수준으로 적용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학생의 창의성은 전체적으로 높은 수준이었으나 학생 개인의 문화자본이나 가정배경, 학교 특성에 따라 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 학생의 창의성에는 부모의 월평균 가계소득과 같은 개인 배경이나 학교 규모와 같은 학교 특성이 더 큰 영향을 미쳤지만 교사들이 창의적 교수학습방법을 적용할 경우 창의성 증대에 일조할 수 있음이 밝혀졌다. 이러한 결과를 통하여 교사의 수업지도 방식 변화를 통해서 모든 학생의 창의성 함양을 기대할 수 있다는 가능성을 확인하고 교사의 전문적 역량 제고를 위한 교사연수 및 행·재정적 지원을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제시하는 한편, 연구의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 후속연구를 제안하였다.
