The aim of this study was to identify the parenting knowledge and confidence toward a first-time father of a newborn. The participants were 136 men in 2015. A descriptive correlation study design was used. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, pearson's correlation, t-test, Scheffѐ test and one-way ANOVA, using the SPSS statistics 20.0 for windows program. The parenting knowledge and confidence were significantly correlated by education respectively, and they had meaningful correlation. The father role in newborn parenting should be emphasized. So, parenting is necessary on their participation. It is urgently needed establishing a social climate and culture for child rearing conditions and inducing fathers to actively participate. Furthermore, it is important to develop the education program for newborn's father. The findings are expected to contribute to the effective educational program for the first-time fathers in order to improve their knowledge and confidence.

본 연구는 첫 신생아 아버지의 양육 지식과 양육 자신감에 대하여 조사하기 위함이다. 첫 신생아의 아버지 136명을 대상으로 양육 지식과 양육 자신감에 대한 관계를 확인하기 위한 서술적 조사 연구이다. SPSS 통계 프로그 램을 사용하여 서술 통계, 상관관계, t-test, Scheffѐ test and one-way ANOVA로 연구 분석을 하였다. 연구결과 양육 지식과 양육 자신감에서 각각 교육 수준에 따른 차이가 유의하였고, 양육 지식과 양육 자신감의 상관관계는 비교적 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 신생아 양육을 하는 데 아버지의 역할이 더욱더 강조되고 있고 양육 참여가 필수적이라 할 수 있다. 이를 위해서는 아버지들에게 맞는 양육 여건과 참여를 유도할 수 있는 사회적 문화를 조성해야 하며, 신생 아 아버지를 위한 교육 프로그램 개발이 중요할 것으로 생각된다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과를 통해 향후 첫 신생아 아 버지의 양육 교육 프로그램에 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
