The purpose of this research was to evaluate the mediating effect of strengths use on the relation of Tourism Related Students’ character strength on career adaptability. In order to achieve the purpose of this research, the subjects were 376 students from Tourism Related Universities located in Busan. Instruments used in the study were as follows: Korea-Adapted Virtue Inventory of Strength(K-AVIS), Korean version of Strength Use Scale(K-SUS) and Career Adapt-Ability Scale(CAAS). The results were analyzed and interpreted using multiple–regression analysis. Based on the results of this study, the major findings were as follows: First, character strength was positively correlated with strengths use and career adaptability. Second, sub-factors of character strength which were wisdom, courageousness and integrity had significantly effected on career adaptability. Finally, strengths use moderated partially on the relation between character strength and career adaptability. Limitations of current study and suggestions for future investigations are included in the discussion.

본 연구는 관광계열 전공 대학생의 성격강점과 진로적응성의 관계에서 강점활용의매개효과를 알아보는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 부산지역 4개 대학교의 관광관련전공학과의 학생들을 대상으로 성격강점, 강점활용, 진로적응성에 관한 자기보고식 설문을 실시하였다. 관광계열 전공 대학생 376명의 설문결과를 바탕으로 상관분석, 위계적 중다회귀분석을 통하여 변인들 간의 관계와 매개효과에 대해 살펴보았다. 분석결과 첫째, 관광전공 대학생의 성격강점, 강점활용, 진로적응성은 유의미한 정적상관관계를 보였다. 둘째, 관광전공 대학생들의 성격강점은 강점활용에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 초월성, 용기 하위변인이 유의미한 영향을 끼친 것으로 드러났다. 셋째, 관광전공 대학생들의 성격강점은 진로적응성에 유의미한 영향을 끼쳤으며, 진로적응성에 영향을 미치는 하위요인은 용기, 열린마음으로서의 지혜, 진실성으로 드러났다. 넷째, 관광전공 대학생의 성격강점과 진로적응성의 관계에서 강점활용은 부분매개효과를가지는 것으로 드러났다. 이러한 결과는 관광계열 전공 대학생이 자신의 성격강점을파악하고 이를 활용하는 것을 통해 이들의 진로적응성을 효과적으로 증진할 수 있다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서, 이들을 위한 성격강점 인식과 활용에 관한 교육적 개입을통해 이들의 진로적응성을 높일 수 있는 방안을 마련해야 할 것으로 사료된다.
