How Temporal Distance Influences Consumers’ Perception on Status Change in Loyalty Program
초록
영어
As an attempt to develop a more effective communication message for delivering repetitive message often required in managing a loyalty program, we tested the congruence effect between temporal distance and message abstractness. Two experiments with online shopping context showed that consumers evaluated concrete message more favorably than abstract message when their status changes three days after the reception of the message. On the other hand, consumers evaluated abstract message more favorably when the status changes one month after the reception of the message. Mediated moderating analysis revealed that processing fluency mediated the congruence effect on message evaluation.
