Self-esteem and Interpersonal Relation according to Enneagram Personality Types of Nursing Students

Purposes: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference of self-esteem and interpersonal relation to the enneagram personality types of nursing students. Methods: A total of 265 nursing students participated. Instruments were Riso & Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator(RHETI), Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, and Schlein & Guerney's Relationship Change Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analysis. Results: Among the nine Enneagram personality types, type 9 was highly measured(36.6%). The score of self-esteem was 55.64(±8.85) and the score of interpersonal relation was 92.30(±11.25). There were significant differences of self-esteem (F=3.638, p=.000), and interpersonal relation (F=6.373, p=.000) according to Enneagram personality types. Conclusions: The data in this research suggest that maintaining or improving self-esteem and interpersonal relation of nursing students is possible with strategies intervention for understanding of personality, which is a highly structured and systematic approach.
