This thesis aims to recognize the purpose and core value of church growth through the study of definition of church growth and suggest the future direction of church growth through the understanding of the study. This study refocuses that the original point for church growth is on evangelism, discipleship, and reproduction. And also discuss that these core values are related deeply to the purpose of church and the Great Commission. These core value becomes basic principles of the church growth direction setting. And the church will be influential to the world and will be expected to develop constantly when practice direction is made according to it’s original meaning and the purpose with these principles, Future direction of the church which observed through the definition of church growth should suggest strategy of evangelism and practice direction to perform the purpose of the church towards the world effectively. Also, we need to set a goal and standard of life and basic knowledge on Bible as a disciples, who carry out this responsibility. And go through the process of following Christ with free will. Moreover, we can expect the church growth through the essential calling of church and the practice of love to the neighbors and the disciples who reproduce their influence to the world. I expect the church would grow by linking main purpose and basic function of the church with focus of church growth and direction which will drive practical contents.

본 논문의 목적은 교회성장의 정의에 대한 연구를 통해 교회성장의 본질적 인 목적과 핵심가치를 인식하고 그 이해를 바탕으로 교회성장의 발전 방향을 제시하는 것이다. 이 연구를 통해 교회성장의 본래의 강조점이 전도와 제자화 그리고 재생산에 맞추어져 있음을 재조명하였으며 이러한 핵심 가치들이 교회 의 목적과 지상 대명령과 밀접히 연결돼 있음을 논하였다. 이러한 핵심가치들 은 교회성장의 방향성을 설정하는데 기본원칙이 되며 이 원리들을 바탕으로 교회성장 본래의 취지와 목적에 맞게 실천 방향을 만들어 갈 때 비로소 교회는 세상에 영향력을 전파하며 지속적으로 발전을 기대할 수 있을 것이다. 교회성 장의 정의를 통해서 살펴보는 교회의 나아가야 할 방향은 세상을 향한 교회의 목적을 효과적으로 수행하기 위한 전도 전략과 실천 방안을 제시해야 할 것이 다. 또한 이 사명을 감당하는 제자로서 말씀에 대한 기본 지식과 부르심에 합 당한 삶의 기준과 목표를 세우며 그리스도를 의지적으로 따르기 위한 훈련을 자신의 삶에 적용하는 제자화의 과정을 거쳐야 한다. 더 나아가 교회의 본질적 인 사명과 이웃에 대한 사랑을 실천하고 세상으로 그 영향력을 확대하는 재생 산하는 제자를 통해 교회의 성장을 기대할 수 있을 것이다. 교회성장 본래의 강조점과 방향성을 교회의 목적과 본질적인 기능과 연결해 실천적인 내용을 접목함으로 교회성장이 이루어지길 기대해 본다.
