This study explored the thematic characteristics appearing in her novels on the subject of two books of novels and two long novels published by Lee Hye-seon, and of her works published in journals. What was discussed in the body of this study can be summarized as follows: First, joys of love and sorrows of separation that take place between man and woman are repeatedly used in Lee Hye-seon’s novels. The man and woman characters appearing in her novels are wholly represented as those who try to seek for true love, and her novels show that love is beautiful and becomes a reason to let people fall into agony at the same time. Second, Lee Hye-seon shows the subject that fate dominates human life through themes of love and separation in her two long novels. In these novels, despite all endeavors to overcome tragic fate, the endeavors only fail, showing that a conservative view of human being is caught sight of. The literature of Lee Hye-seon’s is perceived as heterogeneous in the Korean-Chinese literary world comparing the consciousness of reality of the main current Chinese literature that aspires to reform the reality. Third, in disregard of rapid change in Korean-Chinese society, Lee Hye-seon manages to write daily lives of Korean-Chinese in her novels and disclose her profound interest in the tradition and culture of Korean-Chinese. It is said that these thematic trends come from the writer’s consciousness that unchanged daily lives are the real primordial images even when the society changes, and from her pride of a Korean-Chinese writer for the tradition and culture of Korean-Chinese who live a life of an ethnic minority in a multi-ethnic country China.

본고는 리혜선이 출간한 두 권의 소설집과 두 편의 장편소설 그리고 잡지에 발표된 작품들을 대상으로 그의 소설에 나타난 주제 특성을 살펴보았다. 본론에서 논의한 바를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 리혜선의 소설에는 남녀 사이에서 발생하는 사랑의 기쁨과 이별의 아픔이 핵심적인제재로 반복 사용되고 있다. 그의 소설에 등장하는 남성과 여성은 모두 진정한 사랑을 찾아헤매는 존재로 그려져 사랑이란 아름다우면서 동시에 인간을 고통으로 빠뜨리는 원인이 된다는 점을 보여준다. 이는 인간은 누구나 경험하는 사랑과 이별이야말로 인간의 원초적인 모습이라는 인식을 보여준다. 둘째, 리혜선은 두 편의 장편소설에서 사랑과 이별이라는 제재를 통해 운명이 인간의 삶을지배한다는 주제를 보여준다. 이 작품들에는 인간은 정해진 운명을 극복하기 위한 온갖 노력에도 불구하고 정해진 대로 살아갈 수밖에 없다는 보수적인 인간관을 보여준다. 현실 변혁을 지향하는 중국 주류 문단의 현실의식에 비해 보수적인 시각을 보여주는 리혜선의 문학은 그를 조선족 문단에서 이질적인 존재로 인식되게 한다. 셋째, 조선족 사회의 급변에도 불구하고 리혜선은 변화하지 않는 조선족의 일상적인 삶을소설화하고, 조선족들의 전통과 문화에 대한 깊은 관심을 보여준다. 이러한 주제적 경향은 사회가 변화해도 변치 않는 일상의 삶이야말로 인간의 원초적인 모습이라는 작가의 의식과 다민족국가 중국에서 소수민족으로 살아가는 조선족의 전통과 문화에 대한 조선족 작가로서의 자긍심의 발로라 할 것이다.
