This research examines the conflicts of various visions, interests, and desires aroundthe Kaesong Industrial Complex(KIC). It argues that the KIC serves as not onlya space of exception from both sovereign territoriality and the geopolitical structureof the Korean peninsula but also a site where the visions for North Korea andthe Korean unification compete. Drawing upon the notions of critical geopoliticssuch as geopolitical vision and geoeconomic imagination, this paper analyzes thepolitical tensions of various interests, visions, and imaginations around the KIC. These conflicts are influential in the construction of popular discourse on NorthKorea, inter-Korean relationship and unification, and meaningful in the formationof North Korea policy.

이 연구는 개성공단을 둘러싼 다양한 비전, 이해, 욕망의 충돌과 갈등을 분석했다. 이를 통해 개성공단은 단지 기존의 영토주권과 한반도의 지정학적 구조로부터 예외공간이라는 측면을 넘어서, 북한에 대한 비전 그리고 나아가 한반도 통일에 대한 비전이 다양한 형태로 제출되고 경쟁하는 장이라고 주장한다. 이를 위해지정학적 시선, 지경학적 상상력 등 비판지정학의 개념들에 기반을 두어 개성공단이라는 공간을 둘러싼 다양한 시각, 담론, 상상력의 정치적 갈등 과정을 분석했다. 이러한 담론의 충돌은 북한, 남북관계 및 통일에 대한 대중 담론의 형성에 유의미한 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 향후 대북 정책의 방향과 전망에도 중요한 의미를 가진다.
