This paper investigates how spatial mismatch affects the employment outcomes of local labour markets(LLMs). For this purpose, we aggregate census data from 1995 to 2005, and finally construct a dataset with 7 metropolitan labour market areas including 102 census tracts. In the process of constructing analysis models, we use several indices that include the spatial mismatch index, residential segregation index, mean commuting hours, and job sprawl index. We also control for spatial dependencies and functions of LLMs embedded in each census tract, using the self-containment rates of labour supply and demand and job-resident ratios. Estimation results suggest that spatial mismatch negatively affects the employment outcomes of the low educational group in Korea as well. Moreover, we also find that it is very important to control for spatial dependencies under circumstances where residential segregation is not observed clearly, as is the case in Korea.

이 논문은 노동시장의 공간 미스매치가 고용에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해 분석하고 있다. 이 를 위해 1995년부터 2005년까지의 인구센서스 자료를 집계하여 7개 광역노동시장권, 102개의 시군 구 자료를 산출하였다. 공간 미스매치의 척도로는 공간미스매치지수와 주거분리지수, 평균통근시 간, 일자리확산지수 등을 사용하였다. 또한 노동수요자급률, 노동공급자급률, 일자리/주거 비 등의 변수를 이용하여 단위 시군구 지역에 내재된 공간적 의존성과 기능을 함께 통제하였다. 분석결과 한국에서도 저학력 집단의 공간 미스매치는 고용에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 점이 확인되었다. 더 욱이 한국과 같이 특정 집단에 대해 뚜렷한 주거분리가 나타나지 않는 상황 하에서는, 단위지역의 공간적 의존성을 통제하는 것이 매우 중요하다는 점도 확인되었다.
