The purpose of this study was to identify problems with Poomsae instructions at current first-line Taekwondojangs and propose developmental directions for them based on the results to address the problems with and developmental directions for Poomsae instructions at Taekwondojangs. It further aimed to provide basic data to deliver the meanings of Poomsae in a systematic fashion and educate the chivalry values of Poomsae in Poomsae instructions to be sought after by Taekwondojangs. The findings regarding the problems with and developmental directions for Poomsae instructions at Taekwondojangs led to the following conclusions: First, instructions for the Poomsae of Taekwondo should be supported by theoretical instructions about the accurate techniques and movements. Second, the Taekwondo textbooks should be revised and supplemented in content to present the techniques and theoretical instructional methods of Poomsae clearly. Third, level-based content should be developed and promoted so that trainees can accept and understand it with ease. At first-line Taekwondojangs, many instructors omit Poomsae training because their trainees find it boring and uninteresting. Finally, it is needed to make the qualification of master instructors stricter and make continuing education for instructors mandatory for regular education and evaluation. Anyone aged 18 or older are recently qualified to apply for a Taekwondo instructor course without a belt certificate according to the National Sports Promotion Act and its enforcement ordinance. If they only pass the written examination and obtain a certificate, they are allowed to teach Taekwondo. Those institutional problems will make instructors neglect the basic conditions and qualities and cause more confusion with Poomsae instructions at first-line Taekwondojangs. More specialized education of higher quality can be provided by making the qualification of instructors stricter, providing regular continuing education that is mandatory, and offering instructors a chance to make efforts and developments to improve their qualification through an educational course and assessment for instructors. Those findings raise a need for the awareness and efforts of instructors and concerned institutions to solve the problems with Poomsae instructions at Taekwondojangs and develop them further. Fast exchanges of diverse pieces of information will also help Taekwondojangs deliver the meanings of Poomsae in a systematic manner and educate the chivalry values of Poomsae.
